Overview
Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes), one of Canada’s largest and most successful law firms, is currently looking for a Treasury Manager to join the Finance & Accounting department in the Toronto office. Reporting to the Director, Finance and Administration, the Treasury Manager is responsible for overseeing payments (accounts payable, A/P), cash receipts (accounts receivable, A/R) and cash management across the Firm.
This includes optimizing cash and borrowing positions while maintaining strong internal controls, efficient operations and minimizing financial risks.
- Oversee the Toronto A/P team and processes, including management of vendors, and review and approval of invoice and expense report payments.
- Oversee the Toronto Cash Receipts team and processes, including account reconciliations, dispute resolution and various ad‑hoc requests.
- Administer the Firm’s corporate credit card program and all outbound payments.
- Oversee the Toronto Trust team and processes, ensuring compliance with Law Society rules, regulations, reporting requirements, and trust account reconciliations.
- Work with the Financial Reporting & Analysis team to ensure timely and complete reconciliation of operating accounts.
- Define and implement formal cash management and borrowing strategies to optimize liquidity, cash forecasting and foreign‑exchange exposure in alignment with the Firm’s financial objectives and risk tolerance.
- Enhance and maintain strong internal controls related to the Firm’s treasury processes.
- Act as the day‑to‑day contact for banking relationships.
- Ensure effective onboarding, training and ongoing development of treasury, trust and payments team members.
- Lead and support cross‑functional projects related to treasury operations, systems and process improvements.
- Assist the Director, Finance and Administration with ad‑hoc requests.
- Post‑secondary education in accounting or a related field.
- Minimum of eight years of experience with A/R, A/P and/or treasury functions.
- CPA designation or equivalent (asset).
- Experience in finance operations, preferably within a professional services environment.
- Experience managing a team (required).
- Client‑service mindset with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with Chrome River, Aderant and various artificial intelligence tools (asset).
- Strong problem‑solving skills and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills, with ability to prioritize projects, manage workload and meet deadlines.
- Detail‑oriented and resourceful, with strong analytical abilities.
Ability to build relationships and collaborate with colleagues in Toronto and across other offices. - Knowledge of accounting reconciliations, debits and credits (required).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Flexibility to work overtime as required.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
The expected range of compensation for this position is $100,000 – $120,000 annually. Compensation offered will be determined based on job‑related knowledge, education and skills.
