Equity Research Associate – Consumer Products

Overview

BMO Capital Markets is a leading, full-service financial services provider offering corporate and investment banking, treasury management, research and advisory services to clients worldwide. The Consumer Products Equity Research Associate will join the Toronto-based Consumer Products team and work closely with the senior analyst to develop and market equity products. The role requires strong analytical and critical thinking skills, a passion for the stock market, keen attention to detail and a strong work ethic.

• Building, maintaining, and updating detailed financial and valuation models
• Analyzing company financial statements, earnings releases, regulatory filings, and management transcripts
• Monitoring industry developments, company-specific news, and macro drivers relevant to coverage
• Supporting the preparation of equity research reports and, over time, contributing to investment theses
• Responding to ad hoc data, analysis, and information requests from internal and external clients
• Maintaining and analyzing industry and company-level datasets
• Participating in site visits, management meetings, and industry events
• Communicating investment views and recommendations to analysts, portfolio managers, and clients
• Learning and applying AI tools and automation to improve research workflows, data processing, and analytical output

• A combination of strong analytical ability, writing and financial modeling skills, and a demonstrated interest in equity research or finance
• Prior consumer products industry experience is beneficial but not mandatory
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines
• Professionalism and confidence interacting with company management teams and investment professionals
• Intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, and the ability to learn quickly
• A strong work ethic, self-motivation, and comfort with non-standard working hours
• Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint; experience with Bloomberg, Fact Set, or similar tools is an asset
• Experience using AI tools to enhance productivity, analysis, or research quality is a plus

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Degree in finance, economics, or a related field is an asset
• CFA designation or progress toward the CFA program is a strong advantage

The salary range for this role is $110,000 up to $115,000 CAD (subject to the candidate meeting the specific skills, experience, education, and qualification requirements). Salaries will vary based on location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications, and may include a commission structure. The total compensation package may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, and other perks and rewards.
