Role at a Glance

The Project Accountant (PA) is the owner of the financial operations of the projects assigned to them. They are responsible for establishing and maintaining the financial integrity of projects from initiation through closeout working closely with project manager (PMs) and project coordinators (PCs), the PA ensures accurate project setup, disciplined cost control, timely invoicing, effective accounts receivable management and concise financial project reporting.

The PA is a valued member of the project team, and plays a critical role in identifying financial risk, supporting recovery actions, and safeguarding project profitability. Your analytical abilities turn incomprehensible numbers into meaningful data, allowing project leader to make proactive decisions to ensure the financial wellbeing of the projects.

The right candidate may be located in any of our five office locations and may work from any of those locations.

Responsibilities
  • Review various contract fee types, billing structure terms, and financial risks during the project initiation stage.
  • Work with Project Managers to ensure smart project setup in accordance with the Client contract.
  • Quantify financial impacts of scope changes and track approved and pending additional services.
  • Maintain the project forecast and monitor impacts on fee burn and cash flow.
  • Prepare monthly project performance reports and communicate status with Project Managers.
  • Prepare and submit invoices in accordance with specific project billing requirements.
  • Responsible for collecting AR and working with the Project Manager to resolve any issues, as applicable.
  • Manage financial aspects of consultant relationships from proper fee setup to payment release.
  • Support Project Managers during the billing and earned value analysis monthly cycle to ensure accuracy of coded costs and revenue recognition.
  • Quantify financial risk exposure and advise on mitigation strategies.
  • Attend internal and external project meetings as applicable.
  • Finalize billing, WIP clearance, and AR collection at project closeout.
  • Contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with various tasks and projects assigned by supervisors to support the overall success of the team and company objectives.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to our company values of quality, client focus, teamwork, sustainability, and community; integrating these principles into daily work practices and interactions with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
What You Bring To The Table
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in project accounting within a medium sized firm in the architecture, engineering or construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and project cost control.
  • Aptitude for learning new accounting systems required.
  • Exceptional communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to seamlessly partner with non-finance minded colleagues to be a trusted advisor.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks with high attention to detail, particularly under deadline pressures; strong time management skills.
  • Ability to conduct data analysis and problem-solving with a proactive and collaborative approach to achieve team objectives.
  • Confident in independent judgment, and a commitment to continuous improvement in finance processes and systems.
  • Commitment to accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality in handling financial information.
  • Curious – not afraid to ask questions and investigate alternatives before recommending solutions.
