Job Overview
Director of Finance (Group CFO) – Permanent position. Salary: $180,000 – $200,000 + bonuses. Current opening. The role leads the Canadian finance function and serves as a key advisor to executive leadership and the Board.
Principal Tasks and Responsibilities- Lead all month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close activities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Oversee preparation and review of financial statements, management reporting packages, and consolidated reporting requirements.
- Prepare and present board reporting materials, financial performance updates, strategic recommendations, and business insights to executive leadership and board‑level stakeholders.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership by providing financial guidance, risk assessments, and strategic recommendations to support decision‑making.
- Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, long‑range plans, and financial models to support growth and profitability objectives.
- Lead treasury management, liquidity planning, cash flow forecasting, and capital‑management activities.
- Oversee regulatory reporting requirements and ensure compliance within a regulated financial services environment.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, regulators, banking partners, tax advisors, and other key external stakeholders.
- Ensure strong governance, internal controls, risk‑management practices, and financial policies are maintained across the organization.
- Partner with operational and commercial leaders to identify opportunities for business improvement, profitability enhancement, and operational efficiency.
- Support strategic initiatives—including acquisitions, integrations, market expansion opportunities, and corporate development activities.
- Develop and monitor financial and operational KPIs to drive accountability and performance across the business.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing finance and accounting team.
- Drive finance transformation initiatives, reporting enhancements, process improvements, and automation projects.
- Collaborate closely with international finance teams and global leadership to ensure consistency in reporting, planning, and financial strategy.
- Serve as a key liaison between Canadian operations, global headquarters, executive leadership, and board‑level stakeholders.
- CPA designation required.
- 12+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including senior leadership responsibilities.
- Experience with in insurance, financial services, banking, wealth management, or another regulated industry.
- Strong background in financial reporting, treasury, budgeting, forecasting, capital management, governance, and strategic planning.
- Demonstrated experience preparing and presenting board reporting packages and supporting board‑level discussions.
- Proven ability to act as a strategic advisor to executive leadership and influence organizational decision‑making.
- Experience managing relationships with auditors, regulators, financial institutions, investors, and other senior stakeholders.
- Experience working within a multinational or global organization is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of insurance accounting, regulatory reporting, solvency requirements, and risk‑management frameworks is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of governance, internal controls, audit requirements, and compliance environments.
- Advanced ERP systems experience and strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, leadership, and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands‑on execution when required.
