The Director, Credit Risk Strategy will lead a team that leverages data and analytics to develop and execute credit strategies across the life cycle for secured and unsecured credit portfolios. The role supports product launches and ongoing management of various lending products, develops credit policies, models and strategy, runs IFRS 9/ECL models, and partners with enterprise functions to ensure profitable growth and a seamless customer and merchant experience.
Inthis role, responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Leading a best‑in‑class credit risk management team that improves credit adjudication, optimizes approval rates, minimizes customer friction and delivers exceptional risk‑adjusted yield.
- Developing credit strategies and policies (e.g., adjudication, collection, line management).
- End‑to‑end responsibility for IFRS 9 credit modeling.
- Arrears forecasting and credit stress testing.
- Implementing models and strategy into production.
- Developing and maintaining documentation for models and strategy.
- Creating a culture of empowerment, encouragement and ongoing development.
- Providing mentorship to team members.
- Developing and implementing lifetime‑value based credit adjudication and account management strategies.
- Assisting in the development and maintenance of credit risk models.
- Ensuring appropriate controls for change management within decision engines.
- Providing subject‑matter expertise on managing credit risk in the portfolios.
- Managing key vendor relationships.
- Developing and implementing foundational testing for optimizing limit assignment and pricing.
- Monitoring, tracking and reporting credit strategy performance.
- Incorporating appropriate industry benchmarks into portfolio reporting.
- Monitoring, identifying and escalating material credit risks and trends, and taking ownership of action plans to mitigate losses.
- Producing actionable business insights through data analysis.
- Supporting Legal and Compliance to deliver AML and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders across Risk Management, Finance, Software Development, Product Management and Operations.
- Have a university degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Business, Engineering or equivalent).
- Have 7+ years of risk‑management experience in the financial services/fintech industry.
- Have 5–7+ years of experience in a leadership capacity.
- Have a combined minimum of 10+ years analyzing credit data, implementing risk strategies and making strategic recommendations to senior management.
- Have a strong understanding of consumer credit card industry and products, credit business fundamentals, and knowledge of P&L reporting and the credit lifecycle.
- Have experience with credit adjudication platforms, parameter settings and rules management.
- Have experience with strategy development tools.
- Have strong statistical knowledge and a proven track record of working with business leaders to drive analytically based strategies.
- Have experience with machine learning and predictive model development and application.
- Have knowledge of secured and unsecured credit data and key performance metrics.
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Have the ability to see the big picture while being comfortable with day‑to‑day responsibilities.
- Have the ability to gather, analyze, organize, document and present information in a succinct and organized manner.
- Base salary range: $185,000 – $225,000 per year.
- The final compensation package will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience, skills and geographic location (Canada) and will include a comprehensive benefits plan and a competitive incentive programme for full‑time permanent roles.
