Manager, Personal Banking Financial Control
What is the opportunity?
Manager, Personal Banking Financial Control role is a pivotal strategic and enablement function that serves as the Bank’s ‘second line of defense’. As a key member of the Personal Banking Financial Control team, the manager will provide support for proper accounting advisory for new products and initiatives, implement effective processes, and ensure accuracy and completeness of financial information captured in RBC’s results.
The role has a primary focus on the Personal Lending line of business.
- Accounting Advisory – support assessing the accounting implications of new initiatives to enable business partners to make the best decisions. Support the implementation of new accounting policies in consultation with the Accounting Policy Group.
- Financial Reporting – perform initial review of quarterly financial disclosures and related variance analysis. Investigate financial results abnormalities.
- Establishing the financial infrastructure for Personal Banking products – Assess financial risk and establish proper infrastructure & processes to ensure financial results are reported completely and accurately and risks are adequately managed.
- Monitoring the Financial Control environment – perform review of Standard of Documentation (SOD) and follow‑up on queries to ensure timely resolution. Support SOX controls as required.
- Data strategy and other projects – support data strategy projects and ad hoc initiatives to enhance the transparency and accuracy of the data utilized for financial reporting and business analysis.
- Process Transformation – identify opportunities to automate & streamline processes and assist business with process implementation.
- Participate in ad‑hoc projects as directed including accounting policy implementation, rectifying SOX deficiencies, etc.
- CPA or equivalent completed or in progress. This mandate is dependent on skills commonly associated with accounting designations.
- 4+ years working experience, ideally in financial institutions.
- Strong IFRS working knowledge.
- Knowledge of retail banking products or willingness and interest in developing that knowledge.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills. Able to collaborate and obtain buy‑ins from multiple stakeholders.
- Financial and analytical skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet multiple deliverables within a tight timeline.
- Excellent Excel skills and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of the RBC financial systems.
