As a Corporate Banking Associate in the Infrastructure, Global Credit Markets team at National Bank of Canada, you will provide specialized support for analyzing, structuring, and originating complex corporate and project finance credit transactions. You will be responsible for carrying out detailed qualitative and quantitative analysis in order to provide the information needed to make corporate and project finance credit decisions.

The range of sector coverage includes transportation, social, digital, and utility/environmental within the infrastructure space in both Canada and the US. Coverage will include P3, project, and asset level financing, as well as general corporate and sponsor/developer financing.

Your Job
  • Support senior members of the Global Credit Markets team on a variety of risk management and credit-based financing related activities
  • Principal activities include financial, statistical and industry analysis, as directed by the more senior members of the product and coverage teams
  • Preparation of credit underwriting materials for use in internal credit assessment and adjudication
  • Participate in internal meetings on a variety of matters, and in external client meetings and pitches, as appropriate
  • Work within a collaborative team environment that includes partnership and interaction with colleagues in investment banking, syndications, risk management, and other capital market product groups
  • Emphasis is placed on analysis, financial modeling and written presentations
  • Ability to interact effectively and build relationships with clients, colleagues, and other advisors
  • Develop a strong foundation of required internal systems/processes and look to support continuous improvement and growth initiatives
  • Stay informed on key trends, events and developments relating to sector coverage
Your Team

This position reports to the Managing Director & Head, Global Credit Markets, based in Toronto. The direct team consists of two senior relationship managers, a Vice President, two Associates and an Analyst. Our team stands out for its growth and agility. We work very closely across the other product groups and sectors within the bank, including investment banking, M&A, derivatives, and debt capital markets.

We are looking for an Associate to join our Toronto team Basic Requirements
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in finance, economics, business, or related disciplines with outstanding academic achievement
  • Related banking, capital markets, accounting, and/or infrastructure industry experience
    • Minimum of 2-4 years of related experience to be considered for the Associate role
  • Superior analytical abilities, including assessment of financial statements and financial modeling
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving mindset, collaborative approach and great team spirit
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusting relationships
  • Strong attention to detail with advance proficiency in Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Positive attitude with ability to learn quickly
  • Self‑starter and ambitious, with a strong work ethic
  • CPA or CFA designation (or in process) considered an asset
