Actuarial Manager (FSA) – Life Projections
We are looking for a senior level Actuary to join our Enterprise Actuarial Life Projections Team. This is an on‑site position in Toronto, ON (4 days a week in office, 1 day remote).
Job OverviewAs a senior Actuary you will play a key role in Pacific Life’s growth and long‑term success by providing Economic Value/Economic Capital and Cash Flow Testing projections for life insurance products. You will be accountable to the Corporate Appointed Actuary and Valuation Actuary for Asset Adequacy Analysis results.
How You’ll Help Move Us Forward- Support Economic Valuation/Economic Capital calculations as part of the enterprise economic framework.
- Support Asset Adequacy Analysis, including Cash Flow Testing projections; prepare the Actuarial Opinion and Memorandum for multiple legal entities.
- Support other regulatory projection requirements such as AG38 8C, RBC C3P1, etc.
- Provide support for audit requests; interface with auditors, state regulators, and examiners as necessary.
- Oversee model input data management, including in‑force liability and asset data and economic scenarios.
- Support finance transformation projects, including Prophet implementation.
- Support and comply with all Model Risk Management initiatives and standards.
- Develop analytic tools to explain modeled results and changes from prior periods.
- Implement process improvements, automation, and efficiencies where applicable.
- Develop junior actuarial professionals through mentorship, clear objectives, and coaching.
- Communicate effectively with various audiences, tailoring explanations of complex modeling issues.
- Foster collaboration and manage expectations, communicating project updates, milestones, and risks.
- Bachelor’s in actuarial science, finance, mathematics or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- FSA with 6+ years actuarial experience.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively; manage long‑term projects.
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Judgement, resourcefulness, and ability to distill complex issues into manageable components.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present complex information clearly, including to senior management.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
- Solid experience with actuarial modeling software; MG‑ALFA or Prophet a plus.
- Previous experience managing or coaching junior staff.
- Working knowledge of life insurance products.
- Highly organized and delivery focused.
Salary: $ – $ CAD per year. The range represents the company’s good faith minimum and maximum at the time of posting; actual compensation will depend on experience, qualifications and location.
