About the Role
We’re building a relationship‑oriented bank for the modern world. The Global Investment Banking group supports corporate, government and institutional clients with strategic advice, equity and debt fundraising, and corporate finance advisory services such as mergers and acquisitions. This Toronto‑based Global Technology & Innovation (T&I) office focuses exclusively on technology and technology‑enabled clients, helping them at every stage of their business lifecycle.
Responsibilities- Conduct industry research and analysis to assist in the identification and analysis of investment banking business opportunities.
- Participate in cross‑functional teams, liaising with other units of CIBC Capital Markets in executing mandates or preparing proposals for clients.
- Provide analytical, research and presentation preparation support across a range of transactions and advisory projects, prioritizing effectively and multitasking to meet deadlines.
- Prepare industry and financial analysis to support client recommendations and lead industry comparable valuation and transaction precedent analyses.
- Play a key role in the preparation of client proposals and pitchbooks, developing and auditing sophisticated financial models.
- Assist in company due diligence investigations and execute all facets of the group’s mandates.
- Leverage in‑depth technical and industry knowledge, including geopolitical context, to generate transaction ideas and opportunities for relationship managers and deal teams.
- Build and maintain internal and external networks, coordinating client‑focused or deal‑focused brainstorming sessions with relevant team members and product specialists.
- Manage and mentor analysts, providing regular feedback and supporting their development.
- Support CIBC’s image through involvement in community activities.
- Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Computer Science or Economics. Completion of CA or CFA is preferred; an MBA or Master’s in Finance is an asset.
- 2 to 4 years of industry experience in Corporate Finance, Investment Banking, Private Equity, Project Financing or Investment Review, with meaningful financial modelling and analysis.
- Demonstrated analytic ability, including valuation techniques and cash‑flow and returns analysis.
- Knowledge of accounting principles for financial statement preparation and business combinations.
- Strong quantitative technical skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and working knowledge of software, AI, technology services, hardware, quantum computing or other technology sectors.
- Well‑developed interpersonal, relationship‑building, written and verbal communication skills.
- Unquestioned professionalism, ethics and reputation, with the ability to exercise independent judgment in business decisions.
- Goal‑oriented, highly motivated, capable of assuming high responsibility within short time frames.
- Commitment to trust, teamwork and accountability; ability to bring one’s real self to work.
- Base salary of approximately $135,000 annually, determined by skills, experience and business needs.
- Participation in an annual discretionary incentive or bonus program.
