About the role

Join CMHC as a Specialist, Multi-Unit Underwriter, Housing Program and play a key role in advancing housing solutions across Canada. Opportunities are available within the Apartment Construction Loan Program (ACLP) and other housing program teams. In these roles, you will use your financial and underwriting expertise along with your client relationship skills to support the construction of new rental housing projects, including large scale developments and initiatives that contribute to the development and scaling of affordable housing solutions.

This is for multiple temporary positions of a duration ranging from 18 to 24 months.

What you'll do:

  • Apply sound judgement and decision-making practices based on complex financial analysis while making recommendations.
  • Maintain quality relationships with clients to understand their needs, objectives, and explore opportunities.
  • Act as a direct lender under the ACLP program or under BCH’s funding initiatives: review, underwrite, prioritize and approve loan applications while assessing financial viability and adherence to the program's policies and operational procedures.
  • Conduct detailed financial analysis and make recommendations for full underwriting.
  • Manage risk by exercising prudence and due diligence while reviewing, underwriting, assessing and approving applications.
  • Work in partnership with clients, stakeholders, and various levels of government by offering advice, support and alternative solutions.
  • Prepare underwriting reports, assess findings, and negotiate terms to ensure alignment with CMHC’s operational policy and approval authority.

What you should have:

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant field related to real estate such as business administration, accounting, finance or commerce, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in construction financing, real estate, financial markets or credit risk analysis for Multi-Unit properties.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing, evaluating, prioritizing, and approving loans, including assessing financial viability.
  • The ability to research issues, analyze problems, synthesize information and make recommendations.
  • The ability to manage files and issues (sensitive in nature) using critical thinking and judgement.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Solid oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey decisions and address objections.
