The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is the statutory body responsible for regulating Ontario's capital markets in accordance with the mandate established in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act. The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices, to foster fair, efficient and competitive capital markets and confidence in the capital markets, to foster capital formation, and to contribute to the stability of the financial system and the reduction of systemic risk.
This mandate is performed through policy, operational, and enforcement activities. The OSC also contributes to national and global securities regulation development.

The OSC is currently recruiting for an intern/co-op student to join the Office of Economic Growth and Innovation for a 4-month placement beginning in September 2026. We are open to full-time, and co-op placements.
The student will provide research support to the Growth Markets and Innovation Capital team. This role is well suited for a student interested in economic growth, innovation, capital formation, and the role of regulation in supporting competitive capital markets.
What You’ll Be Doing- Conduct research on public and private capital markets in Ontario, Canada, and other jurisdictions.
- Support comparative research into market trends, regulatory approaches, and initiatives that support capital formation and economic growth.
- Research growth sectors and emerging areas of interest.
- Monitor developments related to innovation, investment, entrepreneurship, and market structure.
- Collect, organize, and analyze quantitative and qualitative information from a range of sources.
- Help identify trends, gaps, and insights from market, economic, and sector-level data.
- Support the preparation of charts, tables, summaries, and other materials to communicate research findings clearly.
- Assist with jurisdictional scans and comparative analysis of policy, market, and regulatory developments.
- Help prepare briefing notes, presentations, memos, research summaries, and other materials for internal and external use.
- Support projects related to capital formation, growth markets, innovation capital, and economic growth.
- Work with team members and colleagues across the OSC to gather information, summarize issues, and support project delivery.
- Assist with other duties and special projects as required.
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program. Students from a variety of disciplines are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates with 1-2 years relevant experience and an undergraduate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A program in Business, Economics, Finance, Public Policy, Data Analytics, or a related discipline would be considered an asset.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with an ability to synthesize information from multiple sources.
- Some experience with data analysis, including organizing, interpreting, and presenting data.
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to summarize complex information clearly and concisely.
- Interest in capital markets, economic growth, innovation, public policy, entrepreneurship, or financial services.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience with statistical tools, data visualization, financial analysis, or market research would be considered helpful, but is not required.
