Job Summary:
The Calculations Specialist (“Specialist”) is primarily responsible for providing Calculation Support specific to event processing. This position requires technical expertise to review, validate and perform calculation processing for all events. As an integral part of a multi-functional team the calculation specialist ensures that accurate and timely benefit calculation support is provided.
The role will require frequent coordination with other areas of Operations Support and Client Services.
What you will do:
Provide Calculation Support Perform calculation review and processing of cases based on QAM (Quality Assurance Module) calculation controls for all events (Retirements, Terminations, Family Law, Death, Buybacks and Transfers)
Being a resource to other areas of Pension Services for ongoing calculation support and assist other areas of the Actuarial & Data Insights teams with special projects when they arise from time to time.
Maintain high working knowledge of all events/ processes for purposes of on and off-system calculations.
Ensure that any processing/calculation issues that arise are escalated and resolved within the SLA timeframe.
Ensure the accuracy of benefit calculations and that all known errors are corrected as identified with HOOPP standards.
Keeping Calculation & Data Services team appraised of issues/problems relating to case processing.
Maintain a high level of processing accuracy.
Maintain a standard of information sharing.
Ensure other team members are up to date on any issues/workarounds/process flow changes, etc. regarding event processing.
Maintain contact with the Client Services Team, Training Team and other Operations Support teams as required
Proactively provide feedback, escalate issues and recommend solutions, as appropriate, to Manager Participate in weekly Calculation meeting.
Provide feedback/suggestions for process improvements on a continuous basis.
Escalate issues to Manager in a timely manner.
Responsible for maintaining documentation and procedures related to Calculation support.
Support with documenting and maintaining procedures for various types of exception processing.
Update iKNOW with information related to QAMs.
What you bring:
University degree or Community College diploma and/or a combination of equivalent training, education, and experience.
Three to five years progressive experience in the pension industry with at least two-three years at a pension benefits specialist level.
Pension Plan Administration Certificate (PPAC) and/or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist Program (CEBS) would be an asset.knowledge of pension plan administration and governing legislation (Pension Benefits Act, Income Tax Act) and other general pension principles.
Ability to follow, analyse and understand calculations is imperative for this role.
