Position Description:
Under the general direction of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Director, Financial Services, is responsible for the effective and efficient utilization of the Faculty’s financial resources. The incumbent provides leadership in managing and overseeing all aspects of the financial administration for the Faculty including accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, financial accounting and budget planning, internal auditing, financial reporting, contract management and the design and implementation of proper financial controls to ensure financial integrity is maintained at all times.
The incumbent provides expertise on all financial matters to the CAO and the Dean, associate deans, senior administrations, directors, faculty, and staff and is a key partner in the achievement of the Faculty’s long-term strategic financial goals and objectives.
In partnerships with the CAO, the Director, Financial Services, provides strategic financial leadership to support institutional planning and decision-making. This includes leading complex financial modelling, multi-year revenue and expenditure forecasting, enrolment-based financial analysis, and the preparation of financial information supporting the University’s Annual Budget Review (A ) process and other strategic planning initiatives.
Under the direction of the CAO, the Director, Financial Services, leads the Faculty’s integrated financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting functions. The incumbent develops sophisticated financial models to support strategic decision-making, including operating budgets, salary projections, non-salary expenditure forecasts, tuition revenue modelling, government operating grant projections, enrolment scenario modelling and long-range financial sustainability analyses.
The Director, Financial Services, is responsible for fostering strong relationships with a variety of foundations, government agencies, and donors that fund various academic and clinical programs within the Faculty. The incumbent is responsible for the overall financial management of these funds including preparing funding reports for program directors to provide to the funding agencies.
The Director, Financial Services is responsible for managing his/her direct reports in the Finance Office and provides them with training, mentoring, coaching, and performance management as required.
