Reporting to the General Manager, the Assistant General Manager oversees the daily Aramark food service operations at the University of Toronto Scarborough campus. The role involves managing services under contract with the client, interacting with the client, customers, and employees, and collaborating to provide a vision for business growth. Culinary excellence and well‑maintained environments are critical to student success, and the Assistant General Manager supports chefs, dietitians, and staff in delivering nutritious and innovative food experiences.
The position partners with students, parents, administration, and the community to enhance campus life while meeting client expectations.
Job Responsibilities- Establish and maintain procedures for purchasing, receiving, storage, preparation, and food service.
- Coordinate and supervise staff on food production, merchandising, quality and cost control, labor, scheduling, staffing, and training.
- Assist front‑line managers with operational and staffing issues.
- Train, develop, and mentor the management team and establish succession plans.
- Monitor financial operating results to achieve company and client objectives.
- Contribute to business plans, budgets, and forecasts; maintain accurate and timely reporting.
- Assist in menu planning, and develop new initiatives and programs to increase sales.
- Ensure all operating standards are met for sanitation and food safety.
- Maintain records to comply with Aramark and government standards.
- Ensure adherence to Aramark’s policies and procedures and Health and Safety Programs.
- Post‑secondary degree or diploma in Hospitality, Food & Beverage, or Business (preferred).
- 2–4 years management experience in high‑volume, multi‑unit food service operations.
- Experience in high‑volume catering and conference services (required).
- Previous restaurant or hotel management experience (asset).
- Previous experience managing franchise operations (asset).
- Ability to manage in a diverse environment with a focus on client and customer services, systems, and processes.
- Previous experience managing a unionized environment (preferred).
- Ability to objectively monitor plans and projects; seek process improvements.
- Effective communication with clients, customers, staff, and adaptability to changing demands.
- Personal ownership and responsibility to build performance‑based relationships and create solutions to address specific needs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications (required).
