OpportunityAs a Specialist, Payroll Unions (18‑month contract), you will support the union payroll team, ensuring accurate payments and comprehensive reporting for Aecon and its union partners. This role reports directly to the Payroll Supervisor.
Responsibilities- Respond to inquiries from Corporate, Work Sites, HR, Vendors and Audit
- Act as subject‑matter expert to answer questions, research, and provide support to the HCM & Payroll team
- Remit and reconcile union payments and burdens accurately and timely
- Review and reconcile union statements on a monthly basis
- Ensure accuracy of union retro calculations
- Set up and test new union rates and benefits per Collective Bargaining Agreements
- Maintain and test union rate changes
- Liaise with Unions and Government Agencies
- Research and respond to third‑party audit inquiries in a timely manner
- Support new company set‑ups and ensure the system is configured accurately per collective agreements
- Foster a continuous‑improvement mindset by recognizing and initiating process improvements
- Provide second‑level support on escalation of customer service and vendor‑related service issues
- Work on projects as required
- Post‑secondary education in an Accounting‑related field
- Completion or working toward NPI payroll designation preferred
- 3+ years experience in a unionized payroll environment
- Demonstrated ability to work in SAP HCM & Payroll
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and Business Objects
- Exceptional multi‑tasking skills and ability to work accurately under tight deadlines
- Thorough working knowledge and experience with Trade Unions
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and data integrity
- Technical systems skills related to payroll/HR, third‑party payroll providers, and HR Payroll systems
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve complex problems
