Responsibilities

Payroll and benefits administration for approximately 1,300 employees, including:

Managing the full cycle of benefits portal updates for new hires and departing employees

Assisting employees with enrolling in retirement savings plans

Processing employee life events and status changes promptly

Managing relationships with third‑party vendors for billing and issue resolution

Conducting monthly bill reconciliation and departmental cost allocation

Ensuring accurate maintenance of digital personnel records

Handling escalated Benefits and Pension plan issues while delivering new hire orientation sessions, creating and maintaining educational materials, organizing carrier‑led information sessions and wellness seminars, providing guidance on plan selection and optimization, and supporting employees during annual enrollment periods

Processing semi‑monthly payrolls – preparing new‑hire, leaver and pay‑change files, calculating vacation entitlement, interpreting payroll change reports, creating audit files and preparing journal entries

Delivering backup coverage and assistance to the Payroll Specialist when needed

Ensuring that information in Ceridian benefits module matches the information with the benefits carrier by identifying discrepancies through reconciliation and correcting the information

Creating and updating reports or spreadsheets such as payroll audit, pension contribution reconciliation and benefits reconciliation

Responding to and resolving inquiries related to payroll, benefits, RRSP, pension, disability and leave matters while providing comprehensive support to employees on plan offerings and options

Ensuring timely response to all stakeholder inquiries, including HR team members, Finance department, management, employees and external partners

Maintaining digital employee records to facilitate audits and ready access to payroll and benefits information

Maintaining current knowledge in benefits, payroll and related legislation

Providing admin support to ad‑hoc projects to the Payroll and Benefits Manager and performing other duties and responsibilities inherent to the position as required

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance or HR, with a strong interest in payroll

2–3 years of experience in payroll and benefits administration

Solid knowledge of Ceridian Dayforce

Self‑prioritization skills with excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail

Ability to handle confidential information with a high degree of discretion and tact

Team player in a collaborative environment

Computer‑savvy, with proven competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, and HR systems

Ability to manage conflicting priorities and a demanding workload effectively

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Payroll and Compliance Professional (PCP) certification is an asset

Salary Range:  CAD 62,000 – CAD 71,000
