As the Senior Pension & Benefits Specialist you will be responsible for the accurate and timely administration, oversight, and interpretation of the organization’s pension and benefits plans across multiple entities and provinces. You will develop processes, maintain operational controls, identify and manage risk, and provide support for payroll activities including payroll processing, validation of employee data, reconciliation of benefit and pension-related payroll deductions, review of payroll outputs, and resolution of payroll-related inquiries as required.
Responsibilities- Oversee and validate pension and RRSP records, including member eligibility, enrolments, changes, terminations, etc.
- Liase with pension consultants, custodians, record keepers, and vendors to resolve escalated issues, retirements, terminations, and plan administration requirements.
- Interpret and manage termination, retirement, pension quote, pension adjustment, SERP, Form 7, and year‑end reporting requirements.
- Provide pension guidance to employees, HR, management, and other stakeholders; monitor legislative or plan changes.
- Oversee employee savings plan records and payroll‑related updates, including member eligibility, contribution changes, terminations, deduction accuracy, and reconciliation requirements.
- Act as point of contact with plan sponsors, HR, payroll, and employees to interpret plan provisions and resolve issues.
- Oversee benefit records and plan administration activities.
- Analyze and reconcile monthly benefit billings, payroll deductions, finance reports, and general ledger information.
- Manage benefit premium payments for employees on leave and retirees.
- Administer and provide specialized oversight for executive benefit programs.
- Develop, analyze, and validate pension, benefits, payroll, general ledger, month‑end, salary expense, cross‑charge, billing, remittance, and ad‑hoc reporting.
- Provide support for payroll processing.
- Support payroll, pension, benefits, ICFR, internal audit, and external audit activities.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience specializing in Pension & Benefits administration, and a minimum of 2 years experience with Payroll.
- Strong working knowledge of pension & benefits best practices and pension regulations.
- Solid understanding of payroll and government guidelines and regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong technical skills in MS Outlook and MS Office, including Word and Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills, as well as organizational, multi‑tasking and prioritizing skills.
- Proven aptitude for detail and accuracy.
- Ability to communicate with various levels of staff, including management.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team to meet constant deadlines.
