Overview: The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is Canada’s largest transit operator in the Toronto area, offering a stable and dynamic work environment. This temporary position lasts until December 2027 and involves a hybrid work arrangement.
What You Will DoReporting to the Senior Manager, Compensation, with a dotted line to the Manager, Talent Management – Centre of Excellence, the Senior Compensation Consultant, Performance and Job Architecture provides strategic expertise in compensation, job architecture, organizational design and performance management programs. Responsibilities include leadership in organizational analysis, consultative advice on job design/redesign, and oversight of major reviews.
- Support efficient and accurate administration of the TTC’s job evaluation programs for union and non‑union staff within the assigned portfolio.
- Lead or undertake compensation research for the development and implementation of policies, procedures, processes, strategies and communication tools.
- Analyze workforce and organizational structures to support talent mobility and career progression.
- Conduct salary/wage administration and policy support for non‑union staff and unionized employees.
- Support design of the performance management process and tools, providing expert guidance especially in performance evaluation.
- Develop and maintain the job architecture framework, including job families, career streams, levels and role classifications.
- Prepare recommendations, reports and business cases for senior leadership.
- Monitor market trends and emerging practices in compensation, performance management and job architecture.
- Partner with Talent Management, Employee Relations, HRIS and TTC leaders to align compensation, performance and job architecture programs.
- Lead and participate in projects related to Compensation, Organizational Design and Performance Management.
- Review position management changes through Workforce Change Requests submitted by assigned portfolio departments.
- Participate in the TTC’s Customer Service Ambassador Program.
- University degree or college diploma in a related discipline (e.g., Human Resources) and relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Previous experience in a unionised environment.
- A Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation is an asset.
- In-depth knowledge of compensation principles, concepts, practices and processes, including job evaluation, pay levels/bands, salary schedules, salary/wage administration and pay equity.
- Comprehensive knowledge of organisational design principles and awareness of how compensation relates to recruitment, training and employee relations.
- Proven experience developing and maintaining a job architecture framework (job families, career streams, levels and role classifications).
- Knowledge of compensation issues and legislation related to the area of responsibility.
- Experience with HRIS systems such as SAP, Oracle or similar.
- Well‑developed analytical and problem‑solving skills; knowledge of research and quantitative methods.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Strong computing skills, including MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and statistical analysis tools.
- Specialised expertise and knowledge in the assigned field.
- Understanding and application of administrative policies, processes and procedures.
- Analytical skills in problem and data analysis.
- Specialised consultation and advisory abilities.
- Planning and organising activities and projects to meet section and organisational goals.
- Proficiency with office technology and software applications.
- Effective communication across varied channels.
