PositionPurpose:
The Human Resources Generalist supports day-to-day human resources operations and provides guidance to employees and management on HR policies, procedures, and employment-related matters. This role supports recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compliance, reporting, and employee engagement initiatives while helping to foster a positive workplace culture. This position will assist and provide support in implementing the Strategic Plan.
Core
Role Responsibilities:
- Fosters positive partnerships with Zoo leadership and Zoo employees and advise on Human Resources and employee-related issues to achieve desired results.
- Support recruitment activities including interview coordination, candidate communication, conducting interviews, reference checks, and hiring recommendations.
- Builds and maintains collaborative working relationships with CUPE representatives and internal stakeholders to support positive employee and labour relations.
- Maintain and update interview question databases and employee records in compliance with employment legislation and organizational policies.
- Serve as a point of contact for employee inquiries related to policies, workplace concerns, and collective agreement administration.
- Assist with employee relations matters including investigations, conflict resolution, and performance management support.
Prepare HR reports as required.
Support managers with coaching, employee development plans, and HR best practices.
Ensure compliance with employment standards, workplace regulations, and internal policies.
Support talent acquisition initiatives including co‑op and internship programs, career fairs, community outreach, and recruitment events.
Identifies leading trends and best practices for human resources and supports change within the department and organization.
Supports human resources programs and activities and contributes to the ongoing development of the human resources team and strategy.
Focuses on continuously improving employee engagement.
Engages in management meetings and assists with advises proactively on strategy, policy, programs and projects.
Ensures that legislative, regulatory, policy, and collective agreement compliance is achieved.
Provide a wide range of strategic and operational support for a range of projects and initiatives including those related to employee engagement, wellness, culture, and EDI (Equity, Diversity & Inclusion).
Assists with the preparation and delivery of training programs.
Technical Knowledge andSkills:
- Must possess post-secondary education in Human Resources or Labour Relations, or an equivalent amount of training and related experience.
- Must have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in an advisory Human Resources role.
- Experience working in a unionized environment.
- Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRL) designation an asset.
- A flexible skill set including the ability to think strategically, execute tactically and collaborate across many teams.
- Solutions oriented and comfortable working in an environment which demands strong deliverables.
- Track record of building effective relationships and partnering with stakeholders in a highly collaborative manner (Leadership, Union partners, and employees) to assure achievement of goals.
- Positive attitude and hands‑on approach in proactively partnering with management and employees to achieve results and a high level of engagement.
- Ability to organize and prioritize accountabilities to support organization needs and advances the Human Resources strategy.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
