Job Details:

Position Title: Advisor, Human Rights & Harassment
Status: Full-Time Administration
Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Minimum Starting Salary: $97,491; starting salaries are determined based on qualifications and years of related experience.

About the Advisor, Human Rights & Harassment Role:

The successful candidate is a passionate subject matter expert and thought leader who will push the organization to move forward in its commitment to supporting a culture where everyone feels represented and valued and has equal opportunity to learn, grow and contribute their best.

Reporting to the Manager, Human Rights, Harassment & Employment Equity, you will be responsible for addressing discrimination and harassment complaints and conducting investigations, workplace assessments, and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.

You will also develop tools and resources to support and enhance timely, effective and responsive complaint resolution processes. You’ll be providing input, advance, and proactive strategies to address systemic human rights issues. In applying your knowledge and understanding of the various legislative requirements, your skills in undertaking investigations, and applying conflict resolution principles, you will be responsible for assessing human rights and workplace harassment complaints and determining the most appropriate course of action to ensure all complaints are addressed appropriately.

Collecting and maintaining complaints-related data, reviewing leading practices and case law, identifying potential risks, systemic issues and barriers, and recommending strategies to support a respectful, inclusive, and harassment-free Humber for students, faculty and staff.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Create and execute investigation plans in a timely and fair manner
  • Address human rights and harassment concerns through informal enquiries, problem-solving, mediation and formal investigation
  • Provide early intervention, problem-solving and referrals using a variety of alternative dispute-resolution mechanisms
  • Provides consultation to students, faculty, staff and other members of the Humber community on human rights and harassment-related concerns
  • Participate in policy development and review
  • Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of departmental outreach initiatives, communication strategies, promotional materials, educational programming and training
  • Participate in workplace assessments and support restoration processes.
  • Maintain effective and ongoing communication with the Manager to ensure that complaints resolution management is consistent and accountable
  • Maintain appropriate complaint management records
  • Strong analytical skills; able to exercise sound judgement
