Overview Black Legal Action Centre (BLAC) is an independent not‑for‑profit community legal clinic mandated to combat individual and systemic anti‑Black racism by providing legal services to members of Ontario’s Black communities.
BLAC engages in advocacy, community development, law reform, test case litigation, and public legal education. BLAC’s service delivery model is anchored in a walk‑in/telephone intake system, which enables community members to receive legal information, brief legal advice, continued legal representation, and/or referrals.
Purpose of Position The DFA is responsible for the daily financial and administrative operations of the clinic, including managing the clinic’s deliverables as outlined in all partners and funding agreements, and other tasks delegated by the EDGC.
Minimum Requirements Have a related post‑secondary diploma or higher qualification in finance/accounting and operational management.
Have demonstrable financial and client service experience in a community organization, legal service office or analogous environment.
Demonstrate a commitment to community and/or legal work related to anti‑Black racism, human rights and/or anti‑discrimination.
Demonstrate flexibility and the ability to manage competing priorities and multitasking.
Demonstrate the capacity to deal with challenging situations, including interactions with vulnerable clients.
Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within a multi‑disciplinary team.
Have demonstrable financial software and computer literacy skills.
Desirable: ability to communicate in French and English.
Salary and Location The annual salary range is $90,000.00 to $, depending on the Candidate’s years of experience and the clinic’s budget. The successful candidate will work from BLAC’s Toronto office.
