Complaint Screening Officer, Professional Conduct Unit

Investigations and Professional Conduct Department

Limited term appointment – up to 6-Months

Category 6 – Hiring Range $88,806- $98,891

New Position – One position

The Complaint Screening Officer reviews and triages employer reports about a member’s alleged conduct according to established criteria, as part of the implementation of a limited-term project to assess a high volume of such files and to determine how a file should progress through the College’s complaints process according to the level of risk identified.

The successful candidate must be a lawyer in Good Standing with the Law Society of Ontario. Bilingualism is an asset.

Responsibilities
File Review and Analysis

Review files and College case law, assess and draft recommendations from a legal lens on how to address concerns reported by a member’s employer through the College’s complaints processes.

Conduct a risk analysis based on case-specific factors, ensuring consistency with past outcomes ordered by the Investigation Committee in similar matters and factual circumstances.

Review and summarize large volumes of information accurately and efficiently related to employer reports about a member’s alleged conduct.

Conduct legal research as required.

Update case tracking system as required.

Collaboration

Work collaboratively with the Intake, Investigations, and Professional Conduct units to share resources, advice and troubleshoot complex matters.

Participate in unit meetings and staff training sessions as required, to support the Investigation and Professional Conduct department with its complaint screening processes.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager, Professional Conduct or the Director, Investigations and Professional Conduct.

Qualifications, Skills And Experience

Lawyer, certified to practice law in Ontario.

Required membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.

Legal knowledge in administrative law and the regulatory area.

Minimum of one to three years of relevant experience.

Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask and manage high volume of work and competing priorities in a timely fashion.

Excellent written and oral communication skills, and ability to clearly convey complex information.

Tact and diplomacy, teamwork, and the ability to review, analyze and distill large volumes of documentation.

Demonstrated judgment and discretion; ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive material, including information relating to the abuse of children and/or criminal conduct.

Familiarity with Ontario’s education system is an asset.

French language skills (written, oral and comprehension) are an asset.
