Job Description: Senior Consultant, Business Controls – Deficiency Management (Asset Management)

Role overview
  • As the Senior Consultant, Business Controls – Deficiency Management & Remediation, you’ll play a critical role in strengthening the bank’s control environment by managing and remediating deficiencies across Asset Management. You will lead efforts to identify, track, and resolve control gaps, ensuring timely remediation and compliance with regulatory, legislative, and operational requirements. Your work will focus on driving sustainable solutions that reduce operational risk and enhance the effectiveness of controls within Asset Management.
  • The bank supports a flexible, hybrid work environment designed to help you thrive in your role. You’ll spend 1–3 days per week on-site, with remaining days remote.
What you’ll be doing Deficiency Management (Primary Accountability)
  • Oversee the end-to-end Deficiency Management process by identifying, assessing, classifying, and documenting control deficiencies and risk items.
  • Collaborate with business units, Control Groups, and Second and Third Line of Defence to develop, implement, and monitor remediation action plans.
  • Ensure all deficiencies are accurately recorded and maintained in eGRC within required timelines.
  • Obtain and document necessary approvals for remediation, downgrades, and closures.
  • Conduct sustainability testing to validate remediation effectiveness and ensure issues are fully resolved.
  • Provide regular reporting on deficiency status and trends to management and governance committees.
  • Enforce compliance with the bank’s Issue Management Procedure, escape unresolved issues, and support continuous improvement in internal controls and risk management practices.
Remediation Planning & Root Cause Analysis
  • Partner with Asset Management stakeholders to design and execute effective, sustainable remediation plans for control gaps.
  • Perform root cause analysis on deficiencies, incidents, and losses to identify systemic issues and prevent recurrence.
  • Monitor remediation progress, challenge timelines where needed, and ensure closure dates are met with no past‑due deficiencies.
Change Initiative Risk Assessment (CIRA)
  • Lead and coordinate the Change Initiative Risk Assessment (CIRA) process for Asset Management change initiatives.
  • Identify and assess inherent and residual risks, engaging and collaborating with Business Sponsors, Control Groups, Second Line of Defence, GORM Portfolio Managers, and regional representatives.
  • Facilitate and participate in risk committee meetings and ensure appropriate challenge and documentation of risks.
  • Ensure the development, documentation, and execution of mitigation plans, and track risk items and actions in eGRC.
  • Obtain and document all required stakeholder approvals prior to launch.
  • Maintain accurate records and support initiative pipeline oversight and post‑launch reviews.
  • Monitor compliance with CIRAP requirements, address non‑compliance, and provide guidance and training to stakeholders throughout the CIRA lifecycle.
Control Management (Asset Management)
  • Lead and coordinate the Control Management process by identifying, designing, documenting, and maintaining Asset Management (GAM) controls across business processes and control streams.
  • Collaborate with Business Units, Control Groups, and Second and Third Line of Defence to ensure controls effectively mitigate inherent risks and support regulatory requirements (including SOX, where applicable).
  • Ensure controls are accurately recorded, updated, and maintained in eGRC within established timelines.
  • Oversee annual control reviews and modifications, monitor operating effectiveness, and ensure appropriate segregation of duties.
  • Obtain and document approvals for control additions, modifications, and deactivations.
  • Provide timely and comprehensive reporting on control effectiveness and deficiencies to management and committees.
  • Enforce adherence to the Control Management Procedure, escape unresolved issues, and support continuous improvement in internal controls and risk management practices.
