Job Title:

Supervisor, Drill and Blast
Reporting to the Drill and Blast Lead, the Supervisor, Drill and Blast is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of drilling and blasting activities in an open-pit hard-rock mining environment. This role provides frontline leadership to drill and blast crews, ensures adherence to regulatory and site requirements, and works closely with mine engineering and operations to deliver consistent fragmentation, productivity, and cost control while maintaining a strong safety culture.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Drill & Blast Leadership and Execution

Lead all drill and blast activities in compliance with site safety management systems, SOPs, and applicable legislation.

Supervise drilling activities to ensure accuracy of hole location, depth, diameter, inclination, and adherence to mine plans and survey control.

Monitor drilling performance and ground conditions, adjusting practices as required.

Supervise blast preparation including pattern layout, charging, stemming, and tie‑in.

Ensure blast designs are implemented correctly to achieve required fragmentation and wall control.

Manage misfire procedures and ensure safe, controlled resolution.

Review blast outcomes and provide feedback for continuous improvement.

Explosives Management, Coordination & Planning

Ensure the safe handling, storage, transport, and use of explosives and detonators.

Coordinate blast scheduling with Mining, Technical Services, and external stakeholders.

Coordinate drill maintenance activities and consumables with maintenance teams.

Safety, Supervision & Compliance

Conduct pre‑shift meetings, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and field‑level risk assessments.

Enforce blast exclusion zones, clearance procedures, and re‑entry protocols.

Supervise drillers, blasters, and contractor personnel as applicable.

Investigate incidents, misfires, and near misses, completing required reports and corrective actions.

Participate in audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews.

Promote accountability, teamwork, and a culture of continuous improvement.

Additional Duties

Perform all other duties as reasonably assigned.

The Ideal Candidate
Education / Qualifications

Valid British Columbia Blasting Ticket

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record suitable for site vehicle use

Experience / Skills

Minimum 5–10 years of experience in open‑pit drill and blast operations

Supervisory experience in drilling and/or blasting

Experience in start‑up environments is an asset

Experience with RC drilling is an asset

Ability to work 12‑hour shifts, rotations (days/nights), weekends, holidays, and overtime as required

Capable of working in remote, rugged, and variable weather conditions, including cold, heat, precipitation, and reduced visibility

Work Location & Conditions
This is a site‑based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities.
