Section Head, Waterfront
Scope and Summary of Primary Responsibilities
Working the with camp leadership team, the Section Head, Waterfront will oversee and support various areas of camp with a specific focus on water-based activities and pursuits. The primary role of the Section Head, Waterfront will be to ensure the safe operation of their program area and ensure that staff are adequately trained to support guests in the organized activities. The Section Head, Waterfront will model expectations by facilitating programs alongside their team while having a role in staff training and development.
Additionally, the Section Head, Waterfront will also act as a liaison between staff team and the camp leadership team.
Essential Functions
The position entails, but is not limited to the following general responsibilities:
Review safety procedures and update as per current guidelines as outlined by relevant agencies and organizations (i.e., Public Health Unit, Lifesaving Society, Ontario Camps Association, etc.) and ensure adherence to guidelines and practices.Coordinate waterfront specific safety training (drills) and procedures to ensure the safe operation of our waterfront and water-based activities.Ensure all mandatory safety implements are in good working order and staff are properly trained and evaluated in the use of the equipment.Schedule, plan, supervise and facilitate waterfront and boating programs for guests of all ages and abilities.Supervise lifeguarding team, highlighting specific zone and duty coverage.Supervise and support staff in maintaining daily waterfront and boating records, which includes a waterfront sign-in and sign-out procedure to ensure proper head counts and supervision ratios at all times.Organize and administer swim evaluations for program participants and ensure the records are saved.Maintain documentation for current staff qualifications and training logs.Facilitate programs and programs alongside other team members within your specialty area (and other areas if qualified and trained).Provide leadership to program facilitators, including supervision, coaching and support within specialty area.Promote and encourage participation in programs through endorsement of activities to guests.Provide clear communication to all guests, including program announcements and any changes to the programs.Assist guests in other areas of the camp, which include dining room duties (i.e., setting tables, serving meals, clearing plates, taking on the role of a Meal Lead, etc.).Take on rotational responsibilities as the on-call, Manager on Duty (MOD). The MOD is the acting lead in emergency situations and will be responsible to responding to calls on the MOD phone during coverage.Communicate clear expectations to staff and volunteers about their role before, during and after the program.Maintain documentation of any accidents or incidents and provide this documentation to Camp Program Manager.Act as a liaison between program staff and volunteers and the camp management team, reporting pertinent and important information in a timely fashion and working to resolve situations in collaboration with the camp management team.During the spring season (April-June):
Responsibilities will include setting up program areas and ensuring that all required resources are available. Helping with property maintenance tasks around camp to ensure that camp is ready to welcome guests.Working as a member of the leadership team, the Section Head may be required to take on additional duties in other program areas on an as needed basis.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
Current National Lifeguard (NLS) required, NLS-Waterfront an asset.Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) required, experience driving water vessels with 70+ hp motors an asset.Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) an asset.Strong interpersonal skills, including patience, empathy and communication.Customer service experience an asset.Ability to resolve conflict and take a lead role in emergency situations.Must have strong organizational, planning and leadership skills.Current (within 6 months of start…
