Our client is seeking a dynamic Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead and enhance EHS programs within a manufacturing environment. This role will be responsible for driving regulatory compliance, strengthening safety culture, and ensuring environmental stewardship while supporting operational excellence.
The successful candidate will be a hands‑on leader who can influence all levels of the organization and implement proactive strategies that reduce risk and improve overall safety performance.
Responsibilities- Provide leadership and direction for all Environmental, Health & Safety initiatives across the facility.
- Develop, implement, and maintain management systems aligned with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 standards.
- Foster a culture of safety through engagement programs, behavioral‑based safety initiatives, risk assessments, and routine safety walks.
- Serve as the subject matter expert on operational and industrial hazards, including overhead cranes, rigging, gantries, forklifts/lift trucks, welding operations, scissor lifts, high‑voltage test environments, and chemical handling.
- Administer operator training and qualification programs, ensuring clear designation of training status.
- Ensure full compliance with applicable federal and provincial legislation, including OHSA, O. Reg. 851 (Industrial Establishments), Environmental Protection Act (CEPA/OEPA), and WSIA requirements.
- Oversee environmental reporting obligations such as NPRI, RPRA, EASR/ECA filings, Chem Trac submissions, and waste audits.
- Manage workplace injury reporting, WSIB claims, and Return‑to‑Work programs.
- Track and analyze EHS performance indicators, including incident trends and GHG reduction efforts, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Minimum 8 years of progressive EHS leadership experience in a unionized manufacturing or heavy industrial setting.
- Experience supporting high‑voltage operations or heavy industrial equipment is highly preferred.
- Post‑secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
- CRSP designation (or actively working toward it) strongly preferred.
- CHSC or equivalent certification considered an asset.
- Strong working knowledge of Ontario health, safety, and environmental legislation, including WSIB and Return‑to‑Work processes.
- Demonstrated experience managing safety programs involving cranes, lift trucks, welding operations, and other industrial equipment.
