Reporting to the Director, Nuclear Safety & Environmental Affairs, the Project Manager is responsible for leading the development, coordination, and implementation of initiatives and common approaches that advance Nuclear Safety and Environmental Affairs across the CANDU nuclear industry.
The role supports industry-wide collaboration in the areas of Regulatory Affairs, Nuclear Safety, and Environmental Affairs, with the objective of strengthening industry performance, alignment, and adoption of best practices domestically and internationally.
Key Accountabilities- Identify opportunities and develop initiatives that enhance Nuclear Safety and Environmental Affairs knowledge, programs, and processes in support of Conexus and CANDU industry objectives.
- Plan, manage, and deliver projects in accordance with approved scope, schedule, budget, governing documents, Conexus policies, and program agreements.
- Facilitate industry forums, workshops, and working groups, fostering collaboration and achieving mutually beneficial outcomes for member organizations.
- Establish measures of effectiveness and provide timely progress, performance, and final reports to stakeholders.
- Execute Conexus business processes in accordance with organizational policies, program agreements, and approved budgets.
- Act as a liaison, as required, with international nuclear organizations to support CANDU members in remaining informed of global developments and best practices.
- Maintain day-to-day liaison with representatives of participating organizations on administrative and program-related matters.
- Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of industry meetings, workshops, and forums, including facilitation support.
- Monitor project risks, issues, and dependencies, and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, records, and correspondence.
- Support the Director, Nuclear Safety & Environmental Affairs in achieving program goals and objectives.
- Prepare materials, briefings, and summaries for internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of Nuclear Safety & Environmental Affairs activities and processes.
- Perform other related duties as required to support organizational objectives.
- A four-year university degree in Engineering, Science, or an equivalent discipline.
- Twelve (12) or more years of progressive professional experience, including experience related to CANDU design, operations, or project management.
- Demonstrated experience with CANDU licensing basis, regulatory processes, or safety-related systems, structures, and components.
- Strong knowledge of CANDU nuclear power plant design and operational principles.
- Familiarity with Conexus member organizations, their operating environment, and governance structure.
- Knowledge of CANDU supplier organizations and industry capabilities.
- Proficiency with personal computer software and the effective use of information systems, databases, and digital tools.
- Broad background in CANDU nuclear operations, including experience with regulatory interfaces, and nuclear safety or environmental affairs, typically gained through several years of direct support to nuclear power plant operations.
- Strong project management capability, including planning, coordination, and delivery of complex initiatives.
- Excellent teamwork, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical ability.
- Good IT skills, with the ability to learn and effectively use Conexus-specific systems and tools.
- A strong commitment to contributing to the advancement of the CANDU nuclear industry.
