The Opportunity

The Assistant Vice President (AVP), Commercial Mortgage Funding provides strategic leadership and end-to-end oversight of the commercial mortgage funding function. This role is accountable for the performance, efficiency, and risk management of funding operations, ensuring seamless execution across the mortgage lifecycle.

The AVP leads the Funding department teams, drives team engagement, and oversees key departmental initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and fostering a high-performing, collaborative culture. The role holds full accountability for funding execution, pipeline management, and reporting, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and scalability to support business growth.

Working in close partnership with investors, internal stakeholders, and Finance, the AVP ensures alignment on funding strategy, capital deployment, reporting, and performance outcomes.

How You Will Contribute
  • Lead and oversee the Funding department teams, promoting strong team engagement, development, and a high-performance culture.
  • Oversee all funding operations, including funding execution, pipeline management, and reporting, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and risk mitigation.
  • Manage and optimize the funding pipeline, ensuring effective prioritization, workflow management, and service delivery standards.
  • Lead and execute departmental initiatives focused on process improvement, scalability, and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with investors, stakeholders, and Finance to support funding strategy, capital execution, and reporting alignment.
  • Act as a key liaison across underwriting, servicing, capital markets, and Finance to ensure seamless coordination and delivery.
  • Establish, monitor, and drive accountability for departmental KPIs, ensuring continuous performance improvement and transparency.
  • Provide oversight of reporting and analytics, delivering insights into pipeline performance, funding volumes, and operational metrics.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to enhance processes, controls, and risk management within funding operations.
  • Maintain, improve and ensure execution of Policies and Procedures for all departments.
  • Build and manage education and training initiatives for new and existing employees.
  • Coordinate inter-department efficiencies to ensure high quality loan underwriting and funding.
  • Manage and resolve escalations.
  • Provide ongoing feedback and coaching to team members.
  • Stay current with latest industry and market trends and competition.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures to ensure AML requirements are met, when applicable.
The Experience You Need
  • Industry

    Experience:

    7-10 Years of progressive experience in commercial mortgages, commercial lending, or real estate finance.
  • Leadership (or Management)

    Experience:

    7-10 Years experience in leadership of operational teams.
  • Education:

    Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, commerce, law, accounting, or a related field.
  • Language Requirements:
    English requirement. Bilingual in French is an asset in both verbal and written.
Relationships External Customers

Senior management at other financial institutions, Investors, Auditors, Regulators, Brokers, Canada Mortgage Housing Corporation, Appraisers, Solicitors, and Commercial Customers/Borrowers.

Internal Customers

Interdepartmental team members including Finance, and Capital Markets to ensure a fluid and transparent First National customer experience.
