As the Director, Strategic Initiatives you’ll be joining CIBC’s Chief Data & Artificial Intelligence Office Project Management Office team to manage delivery of a portfolio of innovative projects. You’ll be responsible for managing a team of 5 to 10 Project Managers and Project Coordinators. At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

• Strategic development and execution – Manage the day to day activities of highly complicated project(s), in an inter-related strategic program following project performance standards. Perform high tactical business planning and return on investment outcomes. Initiate, plan, execute, control and close out the program or project with an emphasis on project inter-dependency management.
• Governance – Establish and reinforce department policies and procedures. Must ensure that all necessary risk assessments and risk assessment processes are carried out at the appropriate time. Must ensure projects for which they are responsible meet the requirements of CIBC’s standards, policies, and procedures.
• Relationship management – Maintain relationships with CDAIO business teams to identify business and technology needs and align application services to support those needs. Establish and maintain stakeholder, client and senior management relationships. Effectively manage engagement of senior leaders and executive sponsors.
• Strong leadership – Be a daring and authentic leader who is passionate about developing and coaching to bring out the best in people. Direct, motivate, develop and manage performance of the management team and key staff.

You can demonstrate 8-10 years of experience in end to end project delivery and project management, including experience leading complex, interrelated strategic initiatives within a matrix environment. You have experience delivering Data & AI and/or data platform initiatives, with a strong understanding of modern cloud and data technologies such as Azure and Databricks. You deliver results in a matrix environment where they may not have direct influence on project resources.

You must have previous experience establishing and maintaining stakeholder and sponsor relationships and you have experience in integration projects and keen interest in architecture and high level design. You’re a certified professional and have current accreditation and good standing in project management practices.
