BMO Nesbitt Burns is seeking a highly experienced investment professional to lead the MPA Supervision Team within BMO Nesbitt Burns.

As Director, Portfolio Management Supervision, you will provide national leadership and oversight for the Managed Portfolio Account (MPA) Program, one of the firm’s discretionary portfolio management platforms serving high-net-worth clients. You will lead a team of supervisors and specialists responsible for ensuring the program operates with the highest standards of regulatory compliance, risk management, suitability oversight, and client protection.

This role serves as a key partner to Branch Supervision, Compliance, Governance, Registration, Wealth Learning, and senior business leaders to help shape the future direction of the managed accounts platform while ensuring alignment with evolving CIRO requirements and industry best practices. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the growth, governance and ongoing enhancement of BMO’s discretionary portfolio management business.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and develop a national team responsible for Managed Portfolio Account (MPA) supervision
  • Foster a strong risk management and compliance culture while supporting business growth and advisor development.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship and professional development to team members.

Managed Portfolio Account (MPA) Oversight

  • Oversee the quarterly supervision program for managed accounts across the MPA platform.
  • Act as an escalation point for oversight and other supervisory exceptions.
  • Ensure regulatory and internal policy requirements are effectively implemented and monitored.
  • Report program trends, risks and supervisory outcomes to senior leadership and governance committees.

Registration & Portfolio Management Supervision

  • Support the team with review and vetting of Associate Portfolio Manager (APM) and Portfolio Manager (PM) candidates.
  • Support oversight of direct supervision obligations for APMs and supervising PMs.
  • Partner with Registration, Compliance and Business Leadership teams regarding regulatory requirements and registration matters.

Training, Coaching & Practice Development

  • Support the design and co-facilitate training programs for newly licensed APMs and PMs.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, guidance and subject matter expertise regarding portfolio management practices, suitability and fiduciary obligations.

Governance & Strategic Leadership

  • Represent Portfolio Management Supervision on the MPA Operating Committee, Managed Accounts Committee and other governance forums as required.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across Supervision, Compliance, Governance, Registration and Wealth Learning to continuously enhance the MPA Program.
  • Identify emerging regulatory developments, industry trends and competitive marketplace opportunities and translate them into practical program improvements.
  • Contribute to policy development, supervisory frameworks and strategic initiatives impacting discretionary portfolio management services.

Qualifications

Required

  • CFA® Charter holder or CIM® designation
    .
  • 5-10+ years of progressive experience within wealth management, portfolio management, supervision, compliance or investment advisory services.
  • Strong knowledge of discretionary portfolio management, managed accounts and regulatory supervision.
  • Eligible for registration with CIRO as a Supervisor Responsible for the Supervision of Managed Accounts
    .
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including people leadership, coaching and team development.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across multiple business and control functions.

Preferred

  • Registered Portfolio Manager or eligible for Portfolio Manager registration with CIRO.
  • Experience working with managed account platforms and discretionary investment programs.
  • Previous experience participating in governance committees, regulatory initiatives, or business transformation projects.
