The Funds Development Manager plays a key role in securing and strengthening financial support for programs, including its micro-finance, business training, and community initiatives. This role focuses on grants, fundraising initiatives, and budget development, working closely with program, finance, and outreach volunteers to ensure funding efforts are ethical, accurate, and sustainable.
The ideal candidate understands that funding development is about trust, alignment, and long-term impact, not just raising money.
Key Responsibilities- Support the development of a realistic and mission-aligned funding strategy.
- Identify appropriate funding sources, including grants, sponsor ships, and fundraising initiatives.
- Maintain a funding calendar to track grant deadlines, campaigns, and reporting requirements.
- Assess funding opportunities for fit, capacity, and alignment with organizational priorities.
- Research and prepare grant applications to government, foundation, and community funders.
- Draft clear and accurate funding narratives that reflect program goals, community needs, and impact.
- Coordinate with the Program Manager to gather program descriptions, outcomes, and timelines.
- Work with the Finance & Compliance Manager to prepare budgets and financial sections for grant applications.
- Ensure applications are complete, compliant, and submitted on time.
- Support the planning and preparation of fundraising events and campaigns in collaboration with leadership and outreach volunteers.
- Help define the purpose, funding goals, and target audiences for fundraising activities.
- Assist in developing sponsorship packages, fundraising messaging, and donor-facing materials.
- Support evaluation of fundraising activities to assess effectiveness and sustainability.
- Support the creation of program, project, and grant budgets.
- Assist in preparing budget justifications and cost breakdowns.
- Identify financial assumptions, risks, and gaps early and flag them for discussion.
- Support basic funding projections in collaboration with finance and leadership.
- Support communication with institutional funders and sponsors before and after funding decisions.
- Assist with preparing reports and updates required by funders.
- Maintain organized records of funding submissions, approvals, and reporting timelines.
- Contribute to building long-term, trust-based relationships with funding partners.
- Work closely with:
- Program Manager (program design, outcomes, and impact)
- Finance & Compliance Manager (budgets, compliance, reporting)
- Executive Director (strategy, approvals, funder relationships)
- Support the preparation of grant-ready materials such as organizational summaries, policies, and impact documentation.
- Contribute to improving internal funding and documentation processes.
- Background or interest in nonprofit development, grants, fundraising, or research.
- Experience with grant writing, fundraising initiatives, or budget preparation (volunteer experience welcome).
- Strong written communication skills with attention to detail.
- Comfort working with budgets at a planning and proposal level.
- Organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate across program, finance, and outreach teams.
