Position: Marketing Coordinator Assistant Summer Job
Job description:
Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute marketing strategies to promote HSDC programs, including the Afro-Carib Fest.
  • Coordinate marketing interns and assist with all marketing tasks, including creating, posting, and managing engaging organic and paid content across all social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, X, Facebook, LinkedIn); influencer collaborations, etc., for all HSDC programs
  • Create and distribute press releases, newsletters, promotional materials, and announcements, ensuring timely and accurate communication.
  • Capture social media content on event days, including going live on Instagram, performances, and festival activities
  • Coordinate and monitor the videographer and photographers on the day of the festival, ensuring they are consistently capturing the various activities and sections of the event
  • Coordinate and monitor assigned social media volunteers, ensuring they are effectively capturing content, interviews, etc. This will include actively distributing the volunteers to specific hot spots at the festival such as food area, stage, kids' zone, etc.
  • Use creativity to market events, secure sponsorships, and promote HSDC programs to media outlets, corporations, and other interest groups.
  • Foster community support for summer festivals to promote cultural engagement.
  • Promote social integration and cohesion for racialized and newcomer community members through Afro-Carib Fest events.
  • Maintain the organization's website and digital platforms, ensuring all content is up-to-date and visually appealing.
  • Collaborate with the Event Coordinator to ensure consistent and effective promotion of events across all channels.
  • Track and analyze the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and recommend improvements based on data insights.
  • Help increase the organization's overall online presence, optimizing engagement and reach.
  • Support marketing-related administrative tasks, including preparing reports and managing correspondence.
Position Requirements
Skills:
1. Marketing Strategy & Campaign Execution
  • Ability to support the development and execution of multi-channel marketing strategies for programs and events
  • Understanding of campaign planning, timelines, and content calendars
  • Ability to align marketing activities with organizational goals
  • Strong project management and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
2. Content Creation & Social Media Management
  • Proven ability to create, schedule, and manage engaging organic and paid content across social media platforms, especially Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, and LinkedIn
  • Experience with Meta Ads Manager and audience targeting strategies
  • Experience working with Mail Chimp
  • Strong understanding of short-form videos, stories, live content, etc.
  • Experience capturing and producing real-time content during live events (preferred but not required)
  • Graphic design and video editing skills, using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Canva, CapCut, or similar tools
  • Extensive experience with maintaining a consistent brand voice and visual identity (required)
  • Ability to create content that resonates with diverse, racialized, and newcomer communities
  • Understanding of culturally relevant storytelling and community-centered marketing
  • Ability to develop content plans and coverage priorities
  • Strong storytelling skills and ability to identify high-impact moments in real time
  • Ability to manage and direct multiple content contributors across different event areas
3. Communications & Media Relations
  • Strong writing skills for social media, press releases, newsletters, website content, and promotional materials
  • Ability to craft clear, compelling messaging tailored to different audiences
  • Experience with media outreach, influencer marketing, and partnership communications
  • Strong attention to detail in editing, proofreading, and content accuracy
4. Digital Marketing & Analytics
  • Ability to track and analyze performance metrics
  • Experience using social media platform insights, Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics, etc.
  • Ability to translate data into actionable recommendations for improving campaigns and marketing strategies
  • Understanding of audience growth strategies and content optimization
  • Knowledge of SEO
  • Familiarity with Meta Ads Manager, paid social campaigns, and audience targeting
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Post-secondary education in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Media Studies, or a related field (required)
  • 2-3 years of experience in digital marketing, including social media marketing and management, email marketing, content marketing, influencer marketing, and SEO marketing (required)
  • Demonstrated experience managing social media accounts for non-profit organizations or large scale events (preferred)
  • Portfolio, including samples of social media content and campaigns created
  • Ability to be on-site for full festival days and key setup/teardown periods (required)
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends, leading up to and during Afro-Carib Fest (required)
Eligibility:
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
