THE COMPANY
Green Shield champions better health for all as a non-profit, purpose-driven social enterprise delivering innovative health care and insurance solutions across Canada.
When it comes to health, we’re always looking for ways to push for better. It’s why we were founded in the first place. In 1957, our founder, pharmacist William Wilkinson, witnessed a mother sacrifice her health by forgoing her own medicine to pay for her sick daughter’s prescription. He knew there had to be a better way. So, he introduced North America’s first prepaid drug plan, and Green Shield was born as a non-profit with a mission to support better health for all Canadians.
We aren’t just a health care and insurance company. We’re the only non-profit social enterprise that brings worlds of coverage and care together, all in one place. Our mission is to create better health for all Canadians, and we know that starts with our employees.
Why Green Shield is a great place to work
You contribute to meaningful work that is a force for good. Through our payer-provider model and Green Shield Cares, employees directly contribute to addressing system gaps, advancing equity, and improving the lives of Canadians. We have a strong moral compass and will always do what’s right over what’s easy.
As Canada’s only national payer-provider, we are reimagining how care is delivered. Our approach is always forward-thinking — from expanding access to digital mental health solutions, to harnessing data and predictive insights, to building integrated care models that simplify the health experience for Canadians.
As a social enterprise, we reinvest our earnings to support communities across Canada. Guided by our Creating Shared Value (CSV) strategy, we focus on advancing health equity and bringing together governments, funders, and community organizations to create lasting impact. Employees benefit from knowing they are contributing to a mission that strengthens the common good.
