The Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the University of Toronto offers graduate programs in architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, forestry, and visual studies. The Faculty focuses on training students to create culturally engaged, ecologically sustainable, socially just, and artistically conceived environments.

About the Office of Advancement

The Office of Advancement raises private funds to support the Faculty’s mission of teaching, research, and creative practice. It raises awareness among donors, alumni, volunteers, and friends about the importance of investing in the Faculty and its students.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Advancement and working as part of a high‑performing team, the Development Officer will advance fundraising and stewardship priorities at the Daniels Faculty. The incumbent will build and strengthen relationships with donors, alumni, volunteers, and colleagues; devise and implement donor‑engagement strategies; and contribute to the identification, cultivation, solicitation, recognition, and retention of annual and leadership donors.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement donor management and stewardship plans.
  • Conceptualize, organize, and execute event activities.
  • Assess needs and contribute to prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and recognition plans.
  • Write project‑specific proposals related to fundraising campaigns.
  • Determine logistics for fundraising activities including direct mail, email, and telefund.
  • Develop components of programs and initiatives that advance strategic objectives.
  • Analyze complex giving and donor trends to make strategic recommendations to senior officials.
  • Assign and check the work of work‑study students.
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of experience.
  • Minimum of three years recent experience in philanthropy, fundraising, or a related advancement environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of donor relations, stewardship, and fundraising practices.
  • Familiarity with fundraising principles for annual and leadership giving.
  • Experience with prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship across the donor lifecycle.
  • Ability to develop and implement tailored fundraising and stewardship initiatives aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Experience drafting complex donor reports, proposals, and communications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to craft clear, compelling, audience‑appropriate messaging.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and data‑interpretation skills.
  • Ability to build and sustain effective, respectful relationships with donors, alumni, volunteers, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment and contribute positively to an inclusive, respectful, high‑performing team culture.
  • Experience managing projects involving multiple stakeholders and coordinating competing priorities.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), donor database systems (e.g., ARBOR), and budget tracking tools.
