Position: Volunteer: Guardians of Justice: An Immersive Human Rights Advocacy Experience in the Heart of [...]

The Human Rights + Women Support Project in Guatemala offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of vulnerable and marginalized communities. By working with local grassroots organizations, you will contribute to ongoing efforts aimed at fostering equality and justice within the country.

In addition, the project includes 25 Spanish lessons prior to departure, ensuring you are well prepared for your time in Guatemala.

Context

Guatemala’s history has been marked by human rights violations and social exclusion, particularly affecting the Maya indigenous population. These communities still face challenges in accessing justice and basic services, making the work of local NGOs and charities crucial in advocating for change.

Volunteer Responsibilities
  • Documenting human rights abuses
  • Educating the international community
  • Providing direct support to victims of abuse
  • Supporting women’s rights initiatives, including violence prevention and education
  • Engaging in advocacy, report‑writing, or organizational development within host organizations
Experience and Support

Upon arrival in Quetzaltenango you will receive a comprehensive induction and will be welcomed by our dedicated staff. You may live with a local host family or in a private room; a private minibus will transport you from Guatemala City airport to the project site.

Your placement runs Monday to Friday with flexibility for full or part‑time work. Weekend volunteer options may be available for special events.

The program includes Spanish lessons and free time for extracurricular activities or travel excursions when possible.

Logistics and Fees

The cost of the program is 1000 per week, with a minimum 2-week booking. Included in that cost:

  • Private accommodation (subject to availability)
  • All meals
  • Airport pickup and transfer to project
  • All project‑related activities
  • Premium support package with 24/7 support

Exclusions:

  • Flights
