Evaluation and Research Manager

Employment Type: Temporary (13 Month Contract), Full-Time

Hours & Days of Work: 37.5 hours per week, 5 days per week

Location: Our office is located at 340 Gerrard St. E, Toronto, Ontario, however, flexible and hybrid work arrangements are available.

Reports to: Director of Equity and Strategic Initiatives

Hiring Range: $80,000-$86,000 annually, plus a competitive benefits and pension plan

About the position

This position is responsible for developing and leading the implementation of the evaluation strategy at Right To Food. This includes developing theories of change, logic models, programmatic evaluation strategies, and data collection tools, analyzing and interpreting data, and engaging and reporting findings to internal and external (partners, donors) audiences. The role includes overseeing an online evaluation space for partner organizations and supporting Right To Food partners with reports and tools as requested and time allows.

The manager supervises one team member, and together they offer a range of knowledge exchange activities, such as training and workshops for the larger Community Food Organization network. The manager works with other teams at Right To Food to respond to needs for evaluation design, research and data analysis and reporting as time allows.

This position ensures that the evaluation strategies and activities at Right To Food are grounded in our Theory of Change, values, as well as our EIRA (Equity, Inclusion, Reconciliation, and Accessibility framework) and RAP (Reconciliation Action Plan).

Key Responsibilities
Strategy, Research, and Evaluation Design
  • Renew annually the strategy for monitoring, evaluation, and learning at Right To Food, informed by internal needs and the latest developments in evaluation methodology.
  • Work with a diverse set of community food organizations across the country to customize logic models, evaluation templates, and tools for Right To Food programs and activities.
  • Lead the collaborative process to design the Community Food Centre (CFC) Annual Program Survey (APS) strategy, involving Right To Food teams and CFC managers and staff.
  • Develop, monitor, and report on Programs Department Key Performance Indicators.
  • Discern and create individualized evaluation strategies for funding proposals and compile data for donor reports using various evaluation methods (e.g., evaluation methods required from a wide ranging array of funders from government to foundations).
  • Support Right To Food departments with research and backgrounders, as needed and as time allows.
  • Support CFCs with community profiles, as needed.
Equity, Reconciliation, and Data Sovereignty
  • Work through the Reconciliation Action Plan Recommendations related to evaluation by reflecting, learning, researching, planning and designing how they will be implemented, collaboratively with consultants, colleagues, and partner organizations.
