Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and guidance on aquatic biology and water resource permitting components of natural resource projects.
- Coordinate, mentor, and support a team of biologists.
- Deliver technical direction and supervision throughout proposal, design, construction, and operations phases.
- Lead implementation, including development of budgets, methodology, and review of deliverables and regulatory applications.
- Establish and maintain relationships with clients, regulators, and subcontractors, and provide insight into business development.
- Oversee and manage aquatic field work and crews in remote settings from the office.
- Provide mentorship for biologists of varying skill levels and participate in hiring and staff development.
- Write and edit technical documentation and reviews as needed.
- Advise on regulatory requirements during all project life‑cycle stages.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and concurrent tasks.
- Utilize mobile field‑data collection tools such as Esri Field Maps or Survey
123, and review digitized data in web or desktop solutions.
- B.Sc., M.Sc., or Doctorate in fish or aquatic-related studies.
- 10+ years of experience as a Fish/Aquatic Biologist in Ontario’s natural resources sector, preferably in consulting.
- Knowledge of the Federal Fisheries Act, Ontario provincial and federal environmental legislation, and their application to projects.
- Training in MTO/DFO/MNR fisheries protocols.
- Eligible for MTO RAQS registration as a Fisheries Assessment Specialist in Ontario.
- Experience with linear developments (e.g., roads, conveyances) or oil and gas regulatory projects.
- Experience working with diverse private and municipal clients, including oil and gas, mining, transportation, water, infrastructure, and energy.
- Strong technical writing and review skills.
- Driver's license and clean driver's abstract for travel.
Posted Salary Range: $95,500.00 – $ (Ontario, Canada).
