Your impactWhen it comes to environmental consulting, we’re helping our clients protect our world’s natural resources. As an Ecologist, you will play a key role in protecting these resources by contributing to the environmental planning and permitting efforts of government (federal, provincial, and municipal) and privately-owned infrastructure projects. The work will involve field data collection, writing technical reports, and preparing regulatory applications.
The position will start in the spring with an anticipated 75% travel for fieldwork and 25% office work during peak field seasons. A successful offer will be full‑time or a 12‑month contract, with potential for extension or conversion to full‑time.
- Lead field teams in ecological surveys and data collection.
- Develop and manage ecological plans and assessments.
- Prepare technical reports and regulatory documentation to meet provincial and municipal standards.
- Coordinate reporting efforts for multidisciplinary project teams.
- Maintain a strong safety culture in all field activities.
- B.Sc. in biology, forestry, or natural resources related to botany, ecology, or environmental sciences; or an equivalent post‑secondary diploma; or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certification.
- Familiarity with industry‑standard terrestrial monitoring protocols, including Ecological Land Classification (ELC), forest silviculture assessments, and related vegetation and habitat survey methodologies.
- Strong professional writing skills, with the ability to prepare defensible arborist reports that meet provincial standards and municipal requirements.
- Vascular plant identification skills.
- 2‑5 years of relevant professional experience conducting arborist surveys and plan development.
- Strong field skills and willingness to work in remote field locations for extended periods.
- Ability to lead field crews and coordinate subsequent reporting efforts.
- Strong safety culture.
- A driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract.
- Experience with surveying for Species at Risk listed species (both vegetative and wildlife).
- Ability to conduct multidisciplinary field scopes with guidance from subject matter experts, such as wetlands, wildlife, soils, and/or fisheries field assessments.
- Knowledge and application of federal, provincial, and municipal environmental legislation, policies, and bylaws.
- Robust problem‑solving skills.
