Medical Science Liaison, Rheumatology
Position:
Medical Science Liaison, Rheumatology.
Location:
Vancouver, Calgary or Edmonton, covering BC, AB, SK, and MB.
- Maintain up‑to‑date scientific expertise through attendance at key scientific, clinical, and economic conferences, training sessions, and preceptorships.
- Disseminate, review, and present clinical and scientific data in a balanced, unbiased manner to key opinion leaders and other HCPs, in group and one‑on‑one settings.
- Build strong relationships with HCPs based on scientific credibility.
- Develop scientific communication materials (slide presentations) for dissemination to HCPs through contacts and meetings and provide congress support.
- Ensure a regional scientific leadership strategy via credible and informed scientific dialogue with key individuals.
- Lead or participate in medical and scientific forums (e.g., advisory boards and medical education events) where KIs are involved.
- Support phase IIIB/IV local and global clinical development programs, including site identification, patient enrollment, follow‑up visits, interpretation of results, and post‑hoc analyses.
- Support investigator‑initiated studies by fielding and assessing research requests, aligning investigator interests with company research needs, and engaging investigators to ensure successful execution and completion.
- Analyze data—new and post‑hoc—to develop insights and contribute to publications as appropriate.
- Provide expert clinical consultation and support to business partners (e.g., Access, Medical Education, Sales and Marketing).
- Partner with in‑house business partners to facilitate ongoing exchange of clinical information.
- Provide regional medical perspective to influence the integrated Medical Affairs plan which complements the Integrated Lifecycle plans.
- Support the Medical Science publication plan.
- Education: Minimum of a university degree in science or health‑related field with significant therapeutic‑area experience. MD and/or PhD, PharmD preferred.

Skills:- Proven ability to learn quickly, assimilate and distill large amounts of information, and build and maintain relationships.
- Strategic thinking and a positive track record of flawless execution.
- Effective communication to KIs and non‑experts, with the ability to put data into perspective and communicate concisely.
- Critical thinking, strong project management skills, and ability to impact decision making with stakeholders.
- Business acumen, prioritization skills and big‑picture orientation.
- Scientific curiosity, familiarity, and interest in keeping abreast of scientific trends within the therapeutic area.
- Initiative, prioritization, and follow‑through in a field‑based role.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other relevant software programs.
- Travel nationally as well as internationally; up to 70% travel required; overnight travel may occur 1–2 times per week on average.
- Driver’s license and valid passport required.
- Preferred:
- Minimum of 2 years business experience in the pharmaceutical industry, balanced with strong clinical and/or scientific background.
- Track record of contribution to commercial, medical and/or clinical development strategies.
- Knowledge of the therapeutic area of interest and ability to acquire expertise in other areas as needed.
- Experience managing clinical/ scientific programs from concept to publication.
- Strong knowledge of GCP, IMC code, healthcare compliance policies and procedures.
- Familiarity with working in an environment guided by SOPs.
Salary range: CAD 107,000 – 214,000.
