Pay: $23-26

Shift Premiums: 2nd Shift ($3), 3rd Shift ($4), Weekend ($3)

Position Summary

Start your career as a truck technician in this entry‑level Diesel Technician III role, acting as a mechanic’s helper/apprentice. Perform minor component repair or replacement and assist with removal, replacement, and repair of major components under the direction of a lead technician or supervisor.

Major Responsibilities
  • Remove, replace or adjust brakes (air and hydraulic), fifth wheel, minor electrical repairs, cab components, accessories, and minor trailer maintenance such as doors and wheel seals under some supervision.
  • Perform all aspects of preventive maintenance on vehicles as trained.
  • Carry out mechanical repairs and replacements directed/assisted by Technician I, II, Lead Technician or Supervisor as part of training.
  • Conduct all necessary customer service duties.
  • Pick up and deliver vehicles.
  • Maintain work area appearance and safety.
  • Use hand tools (screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, precision instruments) and power tools (pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, jacks, hoists).
  • Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication.
  • Adjust and replace brakes, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
  • Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
  • 1‑2 years of practical experience with vehicle or truck repair preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational/Technical or certification preferred.
  • Must be currently enrolled in an apprentice program.
  • Must maintain membership/registration with respective government agencies.
  • Working knowledge of hand tools required.
  • Current driver’s licence class G or class 5 and the ability to obtain class DZ within 6 months of hire required.
  • Basic computer skills preferred for data entry into maintenance systems.
  • Ability to work in non‑climate controlled conditions required.
  • Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function.
  • Willingness to travel within the district (customers, training sites) and to work at the specific location required.
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 12 kg, frequently to 23 kg, and occasionally to 45 kg.
  • Required vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Regular duties include standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and using hands to handle, feel, and reach.
