Position: Certified Meter Mechanic / Tester
Expected Salary Range: $42.67 - $54.45 Hourly
The salary range shown above reflects the expected compensation for this position. The final salary offered will be determined based on a holistic assessment of the candidate’s experience, education, training, and alignment with the role’s requirements. For positions covered by a collective agreement, placement within the range will follow the applicable step or classification.
The Certified Meter Mechanic /Tester assists with the installation, change, removal, repair, inspection, testing and calibration of all types of meters and metering equipment for correct wiring and accuracy of metering; operation of meter test equipment according to documented procedures; and troubleshooting to determine faults in meters, metering equipment and test boards. The Certified Meter Mechanic/Tester complies with Measurement Canada standards and may provide assistance in verifying meters and meter installations.
These duties will be performed to the level of the applicable skills and knowledge of the incumbent, under the direction of a Certified Crew Leader, Meter.
This posting is to fill up to 2 number of positions, at least one of which is an existing vacancy. Toronto Hydro reserves the right, in alignment with the applicable collective agreement, to finalize the number of positions filled.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
From work orders, specifications, standards, instructions and analysis of prints, sketches and diagrams, install, change and remove all types of meters, instrument transformers and metering equipment and troubleshoot to determine faults in meters, metering equipmentInspect and test all types of meter installations for correct wiring of meters, metering equipment and accuracy of meteringAssist department of Measurement Canada Inspectors in verifying meters and meter installationRepair all types of meters and metering equipment; adjust, calibrate and conduct testsPerform routine maintenance on Departmental equipment and machineryProvide direction and guidance to lower classificationsAssist in high voltage testingInvestigate and report on system anomaliesUpdate and prepare reports, records and documents pertaining to the positionOperate a vehicle requiring a class G license and associated equipment related to the position.Follow regulatory proceduresFollow employer’s proceduresEngage in job planning with Crew Leader and/or SupervisorFollow job planCreate and lead tailboardIdentify defects, contraventions and dangersUse initiative to reduce riskApply discretion to solve OH&S problemsReport unresolved problemsWork cooperatively with co-workers, crew leaders, supervisors and othersREQUIREMENTS:
Minimum two (2) year college diploma (Electrical preferred) with relevant demonstrated practical experienceFully Qualified Meter MechanicMust have a valid class "G" Driver’s License in the Province of OntarioKnowledgeable in the electric utility metering field preferredFamiliar with the IESO, Measurement Canada and Electricity Act and Regulations is an assetDemonstrate experience in a variety of business computer software such as Microsoft officeAble to work independently and in a team environment always creating positive relationships and interacts effectively with othersExcellent communication skills, both verbal and writtenSafety performance and familiarity with utility safety regulations and practices; adopts safe and efficient work practices, participates in job planning, risk reduction, and reports problemsCustomer Service and Trust; excels in providing timely and effective services and exceeding customer expectationsLeadership; keeps people informed, promotes team morale and productivity.
