About This Role
Giant Tiger Wholesale is hiring an Automation Maintenance Technician for our fully automated 660,000 square foot distribution centre in Johnstown, ON. The Technician will repair, calibrate, and maintain automated and robotic systems, including Automated Adapters, Vertical Lifts, and a fleet of automated robotic vehicles. This role requires a system expert of automation—mechanical, PLC, electrical, or electronic subsystems—to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Responsibilities- Ensure safety commitments in compliance with OSHA and GT’s processes and procedures are met daily.
- Perform inspections on systems associated with the Automated Storage and Retrieval System and Automated Adapters/Lifts.
- Process and monitor the flow of the automated storage and retrieval system to achieve maximum throughput and cases per hour.
- Support continuous operation by adjusting, calibrating, repairing, replacing, or modifying system components.
- Troubleshoot automated robotic vehicle anomalies and stoppages using schematic and wiring diagrams and test equipment.
- Communicate problems impacting production and recommend corrective actions with estimated resolution times.
- Maintain equipment cleanliness, remove replaced parts, and ensure work areas are tidy after repairs.
- Utilize radio etiquette while receiving instructions from leadership and operational leads.
- Recover automated robotic vehicles in restrictive environments.
- Perform Cell Operator functions as needed.
- Carry out additional duties assigned by leadership.
- Minimum 1 year experience with mechanical automation systems or equivalent education/training.
- Strong electro‑mechanical skills and ability to troubleshoot using diagrams.
- Reliable attendance and ability to meet productivity expectations.
- Capable of multi‑tasking and performing multiple job functions simultaneously.
- Work independently while following procedures and manuals.
- High sense of urgency and adaptability to changing business needs.
- Physical capability to perform repetitive tasks, lift up to 50lbs, move up to 80lbs, stand, bend, crawl, and work at heights up to 55ft.
- Commitment to safety and compliance with lock‑out/tag‑out, fall protection, and other safety protocols.
- 12‑hour rotating shifts: 6:30am–7:00pm or 6:30pm–7:00am, following a 6‑week rotation pattern.
- Requires wearing proper PPE (hard hat, cut‑resistant gloves, steel‑toe boots, eye protection, ear protection, and fall protection harnesses).
- Work involves climbing steep stairs, operating at heights up to 55ft, and working in restrictive areas (24inches high).
- Hourly Rate: $22.58 per hour, with guaranteed increases based on cumulative hours.
- Night Shift Premium: $2.00 per hour for overnight shifts.
