Job Description

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Manager, you will be responsible for completing repairs to hospital facilities and equipment. Tasks are varied and could entail repair of dish machine, garburator, cartwash, pumps, fans, compressor, rotary equipment, piping systems, ground equipment, and diesel generators. Operation of the hospital power plant including the heating, ventilation and air conditioning, medical gases, fire alarm and domestic hot water systems is an essential part of this position.

Journeyman Tradesman/Plant operator is required to operate the Building Automation System (BAS), perform water tests, diesel generator tests, and efficiently operate chillers, boilers, cooling towers and the associated heating and cooling loops. From time to time, Journeyman Tradesperson/Plant Operators may be required to perform such functions as grass cutting, snow removal and other essential labour functions. You may be scheduled at the General or Birchmount campus based on departmental needs.

Requirements

Valid Red Seal Ontario Certificate of Qualification and/or a valid Operating Engineering license

Previous experience working in plant operations

Demonstrates ability to read, write, speak and follow directions in English

Able to read blueprints and follow sketches and oral & written assignments

Competent in the use of building automation systems and preventative maintenance techniques

Demonstrates ability to work independently with minimum supervision

Demonstrates good interpersonal, communication and customer service skills

Physical capabilities to perform duties as outlined by the physical demands

Demonstrates values consistent with Scarborough Health Network (SHN) Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation

Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and report hazards
