As the Senior Cost Accountant in a manufacturing environment, you will act as a critical bridge between production operations and finance. You will be responsible for managing the accurate valuation of inventory and analyzing the true cost of producing goods to drive profitability.
Job SummaryThe role involves maintaining standard costing systems, performing complex variance analyses, and providing actionable insights into manufacturing performance. This professional ensures the integrity of the Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) and assists leadership in making strategic decisions regarding pricing and product lifecycle management.
Key Responsibilities- Gross Margin & Profitability Analysis
:
Prepare monthly gross margin reports by customer and product line, identifying trends or anomalies that impact bottom-line results. - Costing & COGS Management
:
Establish and maintain accurate standard costs for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods. This includes overseeing annual "cost roll" activities and reconciling COGS accounts in the general ledger. - Labor & Overhead Allocation
:
Calculate and apply labor and overhead rates, ensuring that indirect manufacturing costs are accurately distributed across products. - Variance Analysis
:
Monitor and investigate manufacturing variances, including Purchase Price Variance (PPV), labor efficiency, and overhead absorption. - Pricing Support
:
Provide cost models and "what-if" scenario planning to support the commercial team with new product pricing and Request for Quotes (RFQs). - Inventory Control
:
Lead physical inventory counts and cycle counting programs, reconciling differences between system records and physical stock. - Financial Reporting & Compliance
:
Complete month-end close activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations, while ensuring compliance with GAAP and SOX standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- 5-7 years or more in a manufacturing cost accounting or cost analysis role required.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel (Pivot Tables, Power Query) required.
