Job Description & How to Apply Below

Project Consultant - Residential Masonry & Concrete

The Project Consultant is a client-facing technical authority responsible for evaluating, scoping, and pricing residential masonry and concrete projects throughout Los Angeles County. This is not a traditional sales or business development role. All client appointments are pre-scheduled by the office, and success is driven by deep trade expertise, accurate scope definition, and the ability to identify constructability risks before a project begins.

The Project Consultant acts as the company's on-site expert-meeting directly with clients, diagnosing technical conditions, defining practical solutions, and ensuring each project is priced accurately and can be executed to standard. Individuals with backgrounds as Superintendents, Project Managers, senior field leaders, or former business owners consistently perform best in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct scheduled on-site client visits across Los Angeles County to evaluate scope, site conditions, access, sequencing, and constructability considerations.
  • Apply deep masonry and concrete knowledge to diagnose issues and design practical, buildable solutions tailored to each property.
  • Identify risks related to soil conditions, grading, drainage, structural integrity, access, or existing site constraints before pricing is established.
  • Accurately calculate project pricing using established company formulas grounded in real-world production rates and field experience.
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to clients-credibility, clarity, and confidence drive success, not sales tactics.
  • Record detailed job notes and short diagnostic videos after site visits and communicate scope clearly to the internal office team.
  • Complete focused personal follow-ups for high-value or complex projects, including return site visits, virtual consultations, or clarification calls.
  • Collaborate with project management and operations teams to ensure a clean handoff from preconstruction to execution.
  • Support the internal team by answering technical questions, reviewing complex scope items, and providing expert clarification when needed.

What this role does NOT include:

  • No lead generation or prospecting
  • No cold calling or pipeline development
  • No contract writing or administrative follow-ups
  • No project management, installation, or crew supervision
  • No desk-based estimating all day

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of hands-on masonry and concrete experience, primarily residential (light commercial acceptable).
  • Background as a Superintendent, Project Manager, senior field leader, or former masonry/concrete business owner strongly preferred.
  • Deep technical knowledge across masonry and concrete systems, including block, brick, stone, stucco, concrete flatwork, footings, retaining walls, grading, drainage, waterproofing, precast, repainting, tile, and blueprint interpretation.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess soil conditions, slope, drainage, and structural constraints and adjust scope accordingly.
  • Strong understanding of production rates, crew capacity, sequencing, and real-world execution challenges.
  • Ability to clearly explain technical decisions to homeowners and non-technical clients in a calm, professional manner.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and accountable with strong follow-through.
  • Comfortable using basic digital tools (video recording, messaging platforms, estimating software).
  • Professional mindset focused on accuracy, buildability, and long-term client trust rather than transactional selling.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary based on experience and technical depth ($85K - $150K)
  • Commission program tied to closed projects (total compensation commonly $140K-$160K+, with top performers exceeding this range)
  • Company vehicle and gas card
  • Medical insurance
  • Professional development support
  • Field-based schedule with no daily office requirement
  • Opportunity to leverage deep trade expertise without managing crews or running projects
  • Long-term career stability within a respected, legacy construction organization
