The Proofreader is responsible for proofreading large, complex assessment projects published in both print and online formats, as well as proofreading a steady stream of product reprints, communications, Web content, and other types of content, both printed and electronic.
Essential Responsibilities- Work with editors to identify and correct errors in written materials.
- Check each job for accuracy, page numbers, correct headers and footers, and correct type styles.
- Proofread long documents with multiple heading levels and many tables, figures, numerical data, and citations and references.
- Apply Chicago style and APA style guidelines and use common proofreader’s marks correctly and efficiently.
- Update Editorial Manager and shared project documents on job status.

Position Requirements (Skills, Knowledge, Abilities)- Minimum BA/BS in English, social sciences, or related.
- Minimum three years’ experience as a proofreader, copy editor, technical editor or similar.
- Excellent command of the English language and strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience centered around proofreading and quality control of printed materials and, to a lesser extent, electronic content.
- Experience with long documents with multiple heading levels and many tables, figures, and citations and references.
- Ability to maintain consistently high performance on complex publishing projects with multiple concurrent deliverables.
- Strong proofreading skills; use common proofreader’s marks correctly and efficiently.
- Experience with Microsoft Word track changes and Adobe Acrobat PDF markup.
- Proficiency with Macintosh.
- The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
- The auditory/hearing abilities required by the job include the ability to hear others using a phone or online conferencing system.
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
- The employee is regularly required to walk and sit for prolonged periods.
- This individual must be a responsible person and regular attendance is required.
