Job Title: Mild to Moderate Special Education Teacher
Pay Rate: $45–$53/hour
Location: South Bay High School within Star View Adolescent Center — Torrance, CA
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week |
Start Date: ASAP
Amergis is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Mild to Moderate Special Education Teacher to support students in a classroom located within a psychiatric treatment facility. The team is looking for someone who can start as soon as possible. This role focuses on delivering individualized instruction to adolescents with diverse learning and behavioral needs in a structured, therapeutic environment. The ideal candidate is patient, adaptable, and skilled at creating a safe and supportive classroom that promotes both academic and social-emotional growth.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) aligned with each student’s academic and behavioral goals
- Deliver engaging, standards-based instruction tailored to mild to moderate special education needs
- Collaborate with clinical staff, therapists, and multidisciplinary teams to support student progress
- Maintain a structured, trauma-informed classroom environment that supports positive behavior
- Monitor and document student progress, maintaining accurate educational records
- Communicate regularly with families, treatment teams, and school staff
- Adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to meet diverse learning styles and needs
- Valid California Mild/Moderate Special Education Teaching Credential
- Experience working with adolescents in special education or therapeutic settings preferred
- Strong classroom management and behavior intervention skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent communication and organizational skills

This is not a traditional school setting. The classroom is located within a psychiatric treatment facility that supports troubled youth and adolescents. The environment is highly structured, supportive, and education-focused.
Program & Classroom Details- 60-bed adolescent facility
- Student ages: 12–17 years old
- Small classroom sizes
- Instruction provided at middle school and high school levels
- This specific opening supports the high school
- No parent interaction
- No access to or work within student dorms
- Position is strictly classroom-based instruction
