Position OverviewEl Camino College is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Psychology instructor to join its Behavioral & Social Sciences team. Instructional areas include physiological psychology, research methods, critical thinking, and general psychology.
Dual enrollment, distance education, on-line or hybrid with required distance education certification assignments are voluntary. For faculty who are interested in teaching online or hybrid courses, completion of El Camino College's distance education certification process is required or submission of a waiver with evidence of prior certification to develop and teach quality online courses.
Responsibilities- Teach psychology courses in physiological psychology, research methods, critical thinking, and general psychology.
- Develop and review curriculum and assess learning outcomes to improve teaching effectiveness.
- Participate in campus and division activities such as department meetings, committee meetings, student activities, and office hours.
- Engage students during morning, afternoon, evening, or weekend hours.
- Collaborate with employers, advisory committees, industry/trade groups, universities, high schools, and other partners to support student success.
- Master's degree in psychology; or equivalent.
- Valid California community college instructor credential in the appropriate subject issued prior to July 1, 1990 (per California Education Code 87355).
- Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of racial, socio-economic, academic, and cultural diversity within student populations, including students with disabilities, as these factors relate to equity‑minded practices.
- Completion of the Request For Equivalency Form if qualifications do not meet the above.
- College/university experience teaching physiological psychology, research methods, and/or critical thinking.
- PhD in Psychology.
- Experience with active learning techniques that supplement traditional lecture.
- Use of strategies that help underserved students succeed.
- Expertise in culturally responsive methodologies related to students' lives, interests, and communities.
- Familiarity with learning management systems and online instruction.
The starting salary ranges from $86,552 – $118,882 annually depending on education and experience.
Supplemental QuestionsContract will be for a full-time tenure-track teaching assignment for the academic year, beginning in August.
