Associate Dean – Public Safety

Associate Dean – Public Safety position seeks a visionary leader to foster campus collaborations and oversee instructional programs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Under direction of the assigned Dean, exercise direct leadership of Public Safety instructional programs, including Administration of Justice, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program, Fire Academy, Fire Technology, Paramedic Program, and Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Academies for Levels II & III.

Implement and oversee the division’s vision, goals, objectives, and program evaluation while ensuring compliance with state, regional, and local regulations.

Develop and coordinate curriculum, scheduling, and enrollment, and coordinate industry-related short‑term courses to address workforce needs.

Conduct analysis of labor market data to align program offerings with industry demands.

Manage student petitions, complaints, and requests, and coordinate with faculty, staff, and advisory councils.

Represent the Dean at college meetings, committees, and official functions, and liaise with local and regional business advisory committees.

Assist in developing grants and securing funding through partnerships with employers and agencies.

Supervise, evaluate, and develop faculty and staff, ensuring compliance with District policies and collective bargaining agreements.

Oversee the division’s fiscal resources, monitor budgets, and recommend cost‑saving measures while maintaining service quality.

ORGANIZATION MANAGEMENT

Maintain knowledge of regulations, policies, and eligibility criteria for assigned programs; ensure compliance with College policies.

Strengthen processes and services through assessment, program review, planning, and resource allocation.

Guide and evaluate the performance of direct reports, delegate responsibilities, set timelines, and resolve conflicts.

Promote use of IT resources to enhance teaching and administrative functions.

Maintain a safe, professional environment and ensure health and safety compliance.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • One year of formal training or leadership experience related to the assignment
  • One year of work experience required to teach in a field related to the assignment
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Educational qualifications and work experience required for an instructional position related to the assignment
  • Equivalent of three years of full‑time teaching experience at a higher education institution
  • One year of formal training or leadership experience related to the assignment
  • Work experience required to teach in a field related to the assignment
KEY

  • Willingness to travel, including overnight stays
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with faculty and staff
  • Capacity to manage flexible hours, including evenings and weekends

  • Proficiency in administrative organization and management practices
