PT Faculty - Journalism

Teaching positions for the 2026 fall semester at El Camino Community College District in in-person and/or online courses. The role includes classroom instruction and development of coursework aligned with the Course Outline of Record.

• Develop and deliver class curriculum to meet course requirements.
• Assess learning outcomes to improve teaching and learning.
• May teach dual enrollment or off-site courses on high-school campuses.
• Can hold morning, afternoon, evening, or weekend hours; dual enrollment, distance education, online or hybrid materials are voluntary.
• Ensure compliance with distance-education certification processes when required.
• Participate in initiatives that support student success through collaborations with external partners.

• Master's degree in journalism or communications with a specialization in journalism.
• Alternate:
  Bachelor's degree in journalism or communications plus a master's in English, history, communication, literature, composition, comparative literature, social sciences, business, business administration, marketing, graphics, or photography.
• Alternate:
  Valid California community-college instructor credential in the appropriate subject issued prior to July 1 1990.
• Demonstrated sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, and individuals with disabilities.

• Community-college level teaching experience in news writing, reporting, mass media, and society.
• Professional experience in daily news production, feature and sports writing, copyediting, photojournalism, use of Associated Press style, and public-interest reporting standards and practices.
• Online teaching certification (highly desirable).

Part-time faculty are compensated on a semester basis per hour: $116.73-$146.27 for lecture and $88.47-$110.84 for lab, depending on education and experience.
